University ups and downs

misskool wrote:If you fail university it is not purely because the university has failed to teach you. Why do you think like that? Have you not thought that you were just not intelligent enough to learn what has been taught rather than place the blame for someone else?
You are always picking at higher education and looking at their fault and you're always blaming your lecturer and now the post grads who take time off their research to teach.
That is insulting to anyone in higher education.
If you find the situation, why not quit and get a job and work your way up?
Maybe HE is just not open to Criticism, do you think HE is perfect and nothing needs improving? I think there are flaws in a number of regards and that is not an insult to people personally.:beer:0 -

Look at this way, even with an average degree my choice of jobs is much larger and most importantly which my choice of what qualifications I could get in the future are vastly improved. A masters was something I wanted to do but it is not possible at the moment, but a degree opens up PG DIPS and that then might open up a full masters.
A few posts ago it was making you miserable and ruining all your future choices. Now it is making you happy, and vastly improving your future opportunities.
You are making up silly stories to get attention, I've got no time for that. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -
studentphil wrote:They are the ones that rip your work to bits though and never hardly say a positive word and they are there to teach you which is a little bit more than facilitating in my book. They are the ones that when I said I want to leave they said dont as things would improve.
I'm not very nice to some of my students either because they have obviously either a) copied texts  or b) not bothered to put in any effort for their work.
otherwise, i will give some leeway to people where there is a glimmer of hope that some understanding will eventually occur.
oh, clingy students who have to clarify every point also makes me wonder if they will ever be able to critically analyse and understand the work also annoy me.
The very nature of your self-loathing makes you an equally difficult student to teach.
The system does not fail the student. The student fails to manipulate the system to their advantage. Just like real life.
get used to it.
now go and read a book or an article. instead of moaning about yet another lecturer or another tutor who refuses to rewrite your whole essay because you have not been able to understand the required text and critically analyse the arguement.0 -
misskool, you are starting to sound a bit annoying yourself with how you judge this about students and bat everyone else but yourself down as rubbish.
That is how I read post 64. The stuck up nature of HE is a big problem that is certain.
You give your time and you give leeway-- it sounds so God like and stuck up, I am sorry but it does.:beer:0 -

If you actually read what I post (just this afternoon, here) I pointed out that there are good and bad points for the american and british post grad education system. I actually read what other people write and try to understand their point of view before flinging my hands in the air in complete despair.
HE needs a lot of improvement, it needs students who are motivated to be there, not students who are there to get a degree or students whose parents think it's the only way for their precious child to get ahead.
It needs lecturers who don't spend more time doing paperwork and filling in grant applications. It needs a proper career progression for postgrads amongst others.
Yet understand that this system that has failed you still spectacularly manages to produce an astounding number of undergraduates a year, what makes you so special?0 -

I am making nothing up. I am feeling a bit more positive and so it would seem a good thing that my posts sound more positive.:beer:0 -

I'm sorry if it annoys you but everyone here is so nice and panders to your obsessive narcissism.
I am open to critical debate
are you?
edit: can I just say that no one has ever called me God-like before, it's kind of a twisted compliment. :rotfl:
Besides, phil, seriously, go and spend some time doing your work and you will notice what a big difference that makes. posting on mse does not an essay write.0 -

studentphil wrote:If I left it would kill my mother to start with. I would be probably unemployed in 10 weeks time, so I might as well finish my degree as it is more productive.
