I wouldn't class £135 as a large sum of cash for an electrical retailer personally. I'm very surprised they didn't have it available tbh.

Depends how big the store is and what time of the day it was. Two or three tills with a float of around £50 would leave them pretty short to payout £135, particularly on a quiet morning.

I agree, especially as so few people pay by cash fir items like that.

Years ago I worked in a (decent) men's outfitters. Very few customers paid cash even then. I can remember being called all the names under the sun because we didn't have £200 to refund someone at 10am on a wet, winter Monday!

I've had quite a few instances where we've cashed up the night before, leaving no more than £120 cash in the tills. We've raised a few times with management that people like to return expensive things first thing in the morning, and we've frequently been without enough cash to return, but it's too risky to leave huge sums in the tills over night.

Why are you trying to return it OP? If it's not faulty, then you're lucky they're even accepting it back.

It was a cash transaction. CAN it be refunded to a debit card if said card was not used for the transaction?
  • It doesn't matter how much or how little cash they have, You have no right to return the item in the first place, especially since the change of mind policy says that you have to have it unopened.

This is not bad customer service, this is just a simple case of arrogant customer.

Actually Currys have a 21 day return policy which forms part of the contract with the retailer.

There's also no mention of the item actually being opened and since they are willing to accept the return I imagine op has complied with the terms laid out in the returns policy.
