Thanks for all your replies already everyone.
I did try doing volunteering with the elderly not long ago but found it just wasn't working out with working full time and my family so I had to withdraw from it.
I'm not sure that this is the best form of voluteering for meeting people anyway - unless you are looking for an older man! It also sounds like quite hard work, although I'm sure that it's also very rewarding.0 -

I didn't do it for that, it was purely to try and do something to get me out of the house.0 -
Do a google search for "time bank schemes" see if there is one near to you...also U3A....It gets you involved with meeting people without pressure also time bank is a good way of helping out and receiving back...0

Loads and loads! And I live in a rural area.

Most of my experiences with internet dating have been positive...until yesterday when I was contacted by someone that seemed normal at first, but then got nasty very quickly and was downright abusive. Ladies, please bear in mind that if your potential shows the vaguest sign of a temper and you haven't even met, there's a psychopath lurking within. Stay away.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Just need to be brave and get on with it now!
Good luck for tomorrow, I'm sure you'll have a great time. Meetup is great in my nearest city and I've now started my own local group so I can socialise closer to home. Still single though lol but at least now I have an active social life!0 -

If I'm ever single again I'd definitely use internet dating. I was single again in my late 30s after an eighteen year marriage. I did an OU degree and countless evening classes and never met anyone - at the classes it was mainly women - the only men were married or weird! I met my partner, who I've been with for eight years, on Midsummerseve.com - a free website.0

I tried internet dating on a free site ages ago. Sadly never found anyone on there who wasnt a loser a liar, a saddo ro a weirdo.. I think mostly these ppl join cos they cant find dates in the real world. They can be good for some ppl and single mums esp. But tbh never found anyone on there who remotely fit my criteria,. Depends what you find atractive. I think my problem was i dont like rugby build (TBH anything other than slim) or bald/receding..lots of guys online fit that or are short(never knew there were so many guys under 5ft5 around). Mostly middleaged too and a lot of marrieds
Have given up for life now tbh - at my age why waste anymore time?:( What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
