so nice to help grateful people0

Good luck OP. FWIW, I think that you are fortunate that Halfords took the trouble to call you and inform you of this issue; many stores would not have bothered. Imagine how you would have felt turning up at Halfords a few days before Christmas to collect the bike...0

You would need to give Consumer Direct a ring for a difinitive answer on this, but i agree with OP.
Don't give up or accept a refund - get them to find the correct replacement or a dearer one for which they will have to stump up the difference.0 -

OP isn't going to get the bike AND a refund.
Good luck OP.0 -

Good luck OP.
The OP paid £279, the bike is now £225, I was suggesting a refund of the difference.0 -

Well the difference will makeup for the delivery charge.
Cant expect them to have it taken from glasgow all the way to somewhere in england for free.0 -
This is standard practice at Halfords - they sell the bikes, offer to store them until just before xmas and build them up at their leisure (presumably when they aren't busy). Ordered a bike for DS a few years back and got one (the correct model) with someone else's name on the paperwork. And the extras they had (presumably) paid for. Lights and a bell, I think.
So, presumably they sell what they have in stock at a central warehouse and ship out just before the big day, which, at a guess, is profitable for them because they are effectively doing bulk deliveries.
Anyway we did tell them the bike was wrong but they said we could have it as it was.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear0 -
If op went elsewhere to buy the same bike, could it not be argued Halfords are liable for the difference?
They are required to put op back in the same position as before... with a bike...
Although whether thats right or not, take the refund and move on op... i'm sure you can find cheaper places than Halfords...
where is the OP going to buy a Halfords brand but Halfords?0 -

The OP is in Wales. The bike is available in Wales. Why woulda bike need to go from Glasgow to England???Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.
