Didn't a poor woman do that a couple of years ago for a few minutes to drop off a xmas card and the car went up in flames, the two children didn't survive. I wouldn't risk it, not even if it was in a drive.
Its not just other people you have to worry about, what if the baby was sick and started choking, being strapped in their movements are restricted as well. The car could be hit by another as well.
If you're sitting next to the car and can see the kids fine, but not to go indoors and leave them out there.
I'm not sure a bit more peace and quiet would be worth it to me to leave the most precious valuables you have in the car.0 -
In my opinion, leaving a baby/small child unattended in a car is no different to leaving them unattended in the road - a car is no safer, as someone above said if anyone broke into the car they have your car AND your children! Very scary I think.
I'm sure it must be difficult if you are popping into the shop or whatever, perhaps troubling to disturb a sleeping baby if you're only going to be gone a minute - but far less trouble than you would go through if anything happened, god forbid.
Obviously older children can be more aware, understand that you're going to be gone for a minute, can lock the doors while you pop into the shop or come in if they feel unsafe - but a baby can hardly come in and tell you something's wrong or beep the horn.0 -

This could have been the one I was thinking of.0 -
No definitely wouldn't. I'd rather put up with DD's screaming when she is woken up. [you can imagine what getting her up for nursery is like in our house every morning!]0

Years ago I phone the police to report kids left alone in a car outside a large shopping centre. What was worse they hadn't even parked in a bay because it was full. The car was abandoned blocking the road.Barclaycard 3800

You wouldn't leave your purse on show in a car, why children?0

What about petrol stations? Pretty much everytime I'm at a petrol station I see a baby asleep in their car seat whilst the parent goes to pay.
I thought this was one of the major benefits of using "pay at pump" myself.:j Go on, shake your money maker! :j0 -
JonathanA wrote:Interesting one. We have, in the past, left our kids in the car if they are asleep. But only ever if parked on our driveway in full view of our front window so that we can see them - and we always make sure one of us is keeping an eye on them. We would never dream of leaving them on a public road, in a supermarket car park etc unattended. Also, I think the most they've ever slept in the car without one of us being in the car with them is about 20 mins - they had a habit of waking up when the car stopped.
same here
although not relevant now as our sons are 10 and 4 !0 -
