haven holidays in cornwall

hi all,
I need a bit of advice. my family (me,wife and son aged 5) are planning to go on a Haven holiday to Cornwall in August 07.
We we have cashed in our Tesco clubcard vouchers to use to pay for the holiday.
We love Cornwall and thought that is would be a good idea.
There are two Haven sites that we are interested in staying at.
Perran Sands in Perranporth and Riviere Sands in Hayle.
We could not decide which site to stay at so I searched the net for holiday reviews. Well, some of the reports for these sites were very critical but some rated them as fantastic.
So we are none the wiser.
Has any one got any reviews or advice as what to do?
I would like to book within the next couple of weeks.
Thanks.
p.s if I am not in the right forum, let me know.

I did Hayle many years ago when the kids were small and we had a fantastic family holiday at that time. There are so many great places to take the kids in that part of Cornwall, working farm, animal parks etc
Whichever you choose Im sure will be fantastic. We used Haven too. Great!
And I have done reading & geography.. too ! ;)

I went to Hayle with Haven in August. I have 3 young children.

    Positive Points

    Very Close to Beach
    Lovely Beach
    Lovely View
    Takeaway on Site
    Newsagents at entrance of site
    Excellent sight seeing

    Negative Points

Seagulls attacking anything insight because bins weren't always emptied quick enough
Very basic play area - the rest you have to pay for
Although very close to beach there is a steep incline - difficult for pushchairs etc
    Long walk into hayle
There was no BBQ outside my caravan. Not sure if that is the same for all.
No chairs or Tables outside either.
    Small Swimming Pool

I would give the area 10/10 and the site 7/10

The kids already want to go again - but we probably won't go the same site?? Does that say it all??

    Good Luck.

    Enjoy.

    Hi
went to Peran a couple of years ago just before Easter. the site was OK (first week open of the season) few teething problems on site BUT the area is FAB loved the beach.
I think that reviews depend on the time of year and the weather that you have (aug "should" have good weather) we had terable winds and rain BUT there were things to do close by!

i hated perran sands when i went last year, i found it too big and impersonal and the staff weren't nice at all.

it's a very spread out site, so if they land you in a caravan on the outskirts of the camp it's a fair old walk to the complex. the pool is ok, but maybe a little small for a haven. the beach is nice if you can stand the walk down and back up again - it's on a hell of cliff and therefore a hell of a walk down. there's not a lot for kids to do on the site if it's rainy - the soft play is rubbish.

perranporth is ok, quite a nice little shopping street and a nice beach, but it was really misty when i was there so didn't get out of the car

nearby we went on a few day trips which weren't great either.

i haven't been to hayle so can't comment on that one.

one positive thing i would say about perran sands is we stayed in a bungalow/chalet thing and it was lovely, in a nice quiet cul-de-sac and very spacious

I've been to both and they are both nice but have good and bad points.

Both of them have fab beaches. However Perran Sands is on a cliff top and there is a killer very very steep walk down - it killed my knees!! We tended to drive round to Perranporth beach and then we had all the stuff in the car and we were in the town for mooching around and buying food etc.
Perran sands is a bigger park but I liked the quieter Riviere Sands.

Riviere Sands is down a long road about 1 mile from Hayle town although there's nowt in the town really apart from a co-op. The beach is a short walk down the road and is not a sheer drop down like Perran sands more a sandy hill walk. Avoid eating in the pub by the beach as the food is appalling! There is a brewers fayre about 1 mile down the road on the main roundabout so we went there every night.

Beach wise they are both nice, however my girls preferred Riviere sands as when the tide went out it left loads of little paddling pools.

We stayed in a silver caravan which was clean and quite modern.

    Any questions just ask.
