Weekend break ideas

Hello,

DH and I are planning to go away for three nights in September for my birthday.
We want to go somewhere in the UK but can't decide where to go.
We've done London, Torquay, Birmingham and Edinburgh recently, live near Manchester and DH works in Liverpool so we don't really want to go to those.

We'd like somewhere that has quite a few things to do in the day (sightseeing, museums etc) and also some nice (but not too expensive) places to eat in the evening.

Our budget is a maximum of £100 per night.

We're really stuck for ideas, if anyone could recommend anywhere that is good to go to I'd be very grateful. :)

Thanks

xx

Will you have a car or are you getting the train?

If you're driving. How about the Lake District or Yorkshire?

The Lake District is great if you like the outdoors.

Yorkshire is great too (although I may be biased!!). You could stay somewhere like Leeds or York and travel to Yorkshire Dales, Whitby etc. Lots of attractions in the area.

We had a nice break in Cardiff recently: There are plenty of Travelodges and similar budget hotels, and coming from the NW you can come off the Motorway just after Birmingham and meander down through Worcestershire and Herefordshire which are very scenic.

The lakes is one idea we have been thinking about. We do have a car so location isn't a problem. Oooo! I'd forgotten about York - I love it there.

    Thanks :)

I thought about Cardiff and wasn't sure what it was like. Definitely one to think about.

    Thank you :)

York is really lovely, lots of things to wander around during the day (walls, museum, river, gardens, old streets) and loads of nice eating and drinking places for the evening. You've even go the choice of driving out of York into the Moors if you have time as well.

Or Chester that's a really nice place too.

In no particular order, Lancaster, Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale, Keswick.
  • I vote York too. I went at the start of the Summer and had a lovely time. You can get a decent museum deal if you book to go to both of the main ones (I think it was £13 for both rather than £8 each.) There are also loads of restaurants to suit your budget, including many chains that have online vouchers. Have a lovely break whatever you decide!

I vote with Crazyguy. Perhaps a little more expensive to get here but not such a rip-off when you do.
