BT Line Rental Saver + Sky Talk

Hello guys,

I'm from Brazil and recently moved to UK, so sorry for my english and ignorance about providers and how things work here!

I'm living in a house that already has phone line and broadband, that a friend previously contracted.

The line rental is "BT Line Rental Saver" (wich was payed £120.00 for the hole year) with unlimited weekend calls (free).

The broadband is supplied by Eclipse, with a plan called "evolution option 1" wich costs £15.31/mth.

I choosed to change the broadband provider to Sky Unlimited, wich costs £15.00/mth if I don't get Sky TV nor Sky Talk.
But if I get at leask Sky Talk (free) the broadband will cost £10.00 per month (beeing £7.50 for the first 4 months!).

Can I contract Sky Talk and keep the BT Line Rental Saver?
I read in other posts and in BT's website that if don't do at least 2 calls per month with BT, they will charge £1.50/mth, and I will also loose the caller ID, but I actually don't use the phone, I'm intested only on the broadband, so no problem to pay this additional.

That way my costs would be:
BT LRS: 10.00 (already payed for the whole year)
BT charge : 1.50
Sky: 10.00 (Sky Talk + Unlimited Broadband)
Total cost: 21.50

Assuming that I don't do any calls, and don't use caller ID.

Will that work?

Thanks a lot,

Thales

You have to leave your calls (even if you don't make any) with BT if you're on Line Rental Saver. You cannot move to Sky Talk.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Thanks

I would not recommend moving line rental to Sky simply because, if you ever wanted to change to another provider, you'd find yourself in an endless bureaucratic loop trying to get away from their clutches.

    Hello,

So it is possible to use Sky Talk with Line Rental Saver from BT?

Heinz, what do you mean with "endless bureaucratic loop"?
    What would they do?!

    Thanks,

No, it is not possible to use another company for calls if you opt for BT LRS.

The problem with Sky line rental is that it is LLU (means they have their own equipment in the BT exchange) and, except for BT, other companies say it is not possible for them to take the line over. That is untrue but, nevertheless, many have ended up having to take their line rental back to BT for a year before moving on to their choice of line provider.

Hi, I am with bt only for line rental, and Aol, for BB+all calls, +1899/18185. Aol keep asking me to change line over to them, NO WAY. Daughter went to sky, and BT wanted £170 to re-connect her with their line to have their BB+calls. Ended up going to virgin..She worked for sky at the time.

Don't Talk Talk own AOL's telephone business now?

A return to donor is free with BT, but does require you to take a minimum 12m line rental contract.

Recently moved house and with BT for line rental on new 12mnth contract basic weekend package, use 18185 for daytime calls, 1571 not activated, no other features, with Sky for broadband on Unlimited package and Sky Talk Freetime for evening/weekend calls (Sky Talk reduces BB charges by £5 pmnth. No plans to take Sky Line Rental.

Now seeing latest BT price increases I am confused whether I can switch to BT Line Rental Saver, whilst still using 18185 for daytime calls and Sky Talk Freetime for evening/weekend calls and what the actual cost savings should be?
