Tips for TomTom that can be used in Scotland?

I have the TOMTOM XL Live Routes Edition which I can highly recommend a bit cheaper than the TOMTOM one you are looking at.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-XL-Live-IQ-UK/dp/B00359F0IA/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1314108984&sr=8-14
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-VIA-LIVE-120-UK/dp/B0048BPRIM/ref=br_lf_m_1000548523_1_1_ttl?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=electronics&pf_rd_p=250069807&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000548523&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1J5QT8GBP6HGMW5EG1KG
£30 cashback (so basically £5 more than the one mentioned) on that one as well as a free travel case, that one also has bluetooth hands free built in.

One last edit:
Just been checking on which? and the VIA LIVE 120 gets best buy status.

I have a Tom Tom 740 and can confirm the maps are as accurate in Scotland as they are anywhere else. The map is the same whichever model Tom Tom you choose. You might want to get one with european mapping?
IMHO live updates is not worth the money unless you live in a conjested area.
If she has a iPhone or equivalent you may find she can use her phone as a sat nav. Advantage is she can use that whilst on foot."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

That's great, thanks. She's buying one from Amazon today with the £30 cashback. The parking assist function sounds interesting!0 -

Thanks missile I appreciate your feedback. Yeah I think live updates will be useful for her as she negotiates her way through Glasgow and Edinburgh on weekdays for placements, especially if the weather gets horrific again this winter (accidents and delays), so she's opted for the VIA LIVE 120 (UK and Ire).0 -

I got a free month with live before you buy. I would suggest you check it out before you commit.
I find the suction cup a real pain to use. I use the bean bag mount alternatively you might want to consider the clip on the vent mount.
Whatever mount you choose, I would suggest you do not leave the sat nav on display whilst car is parked."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Nope, I can assure you that you do not need a traffic receiver, it has the Live services which includes traffic information.0 -

Excellent feedback cajef, samwsmith1 and missile, you're the best! She's happy enough to go with the suction cup for now. Hopefully in a few weeks she can get a better mount, but right now every penny's a prisoner for her! These SatNavs you've all mentioned are really amazing pieces of gear!0

It may be better value but as stated that is the one I have, don't know which one you were looking at but the TomTom site says 'Live' with traffic information.:)
