  • I used to work for cpw
    £10 commission for a contract
    £1.50 for prepay
Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?

I was once told by an employee from there that they don't source their phones direct from the service providers but from their own stocks either for PAYG or contract, so they're unlikely to be sp locked to any network. This has certainly been true for the phones I've had from them (about 5 so far)

Phone companies like CPW make very little money from selling a PAYG phone - instead they get a kickback when u use a sim card that they sold you with the phone..... so If you chuck away their sim card you chuck away their chance for making a reasonable commision.... that is why virtually all companies now force you to buy a credit with the supplied sim......

as regarding locking......it is your right to unlock the phone providing you do not alter the software or modify it ( intellegtual rights )

unlocking is getting increasing hard as many phones now use high security to stop you accessing this area on a phone.

Eg Nokia BB5, Sony Ericsson DB2020 type

CPW will come up with any old rubbish - I had lost my phone (I was on Voda PAYT as I had been abroad) but wanted to go back on contract, I was told Voda wouldn't give me a free phone for doing this as I was already with them so I would need to switch to Orange (this was the store manager!). I stupidly beleived him, but when I phoned Voda for my PAC they told me it was tripe and upgraded me over the phone with a good deal. I then had hell trying to return the Orange phone to CPW who didn't seem to think I had any cancellation rights - but that's another story.

Then that's a bad business plan, because it goes against what many customers want (I heard plenty of other people enquiring about unlocking phones at orange shop and phones for u, for instance).

Won't customers just avoid buying such phones, or worse they could buy those phones and get very irate when they find they can't unlock them, this would then lead to bad publicity.

Economic theories indicate lower profits for companies that don't provide customers with what they want, surely?

I was in my local 3 store yesterday, and I heard a salesman telling a customer that it was quite normal for his SE K00i to need recharging every 24 hours as it was connected to the 3g network constantly....... He then produced his own K800i and said his was the same. Funny, because my K800i goes around a week to 10 days without needing charging (Before I got the white screen of death - but that's another story......... :( )
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
