I must admit those aren't the worst terms I've ever seen.

I'm much more put off by all those sellers claiming that no responsibility will be taken for items lost or damaged in the post.

    And more.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF MY GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF TRADE AS OUTLINED BELOW BEFORE BIDDING. PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH ANY ASPECT OF THESE TERMS. I BELIEVE I HAVE BEEN HONEST AND CONCISE IN OUTLINING MY TRADING PRACTICES, AND ALL COSTS ARE SHOWN FOR UK-BASED TRANSACTIONS. I WILL NOT ENTERTAIN QUERIES OR COMPLAINTS REGARDING ANY OF THE DETAILS BELOW AFTER THE AUCTION HAS ENDED - IF IN DOUBT, ASK FIRST!
    PAYMENT
    UK BUYERS
I accept Paypal, but prefer payment by cheque or uncrossed postal order. Note that the item(s) will not be sent until cheque or crossed postal order payment has cleared into my account.
    OVERSEAS BUYERS
    PAYPAL ONLY PLEASE.
Overseas buyers - especially those from outside of the EU - PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING to establish shipping costs to your country: this will save both you and me time, money & embarrassment when you realise how expensive airmail to places like the United States can be!
I WILL report you to Ebay for non-payment if you bid then refuse to pay due to what you may see as unreasonable shipping costs. Since the rules on feedback were changed - with sellers no longer able to leave negative or neutral feedback even when they have been let down or inconvenienced by buyers - this appears to have become a common problem on Ebay and it must stop! I am giving you the opportunity to ask so please use it!
    SHIPPING & HANDLING
PLEASE NOTE THAT I OFFER SHIPPING DISCOUNTS FOR MULTIPLE ITEM WINS - PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
The shipping rate stated applies only to items sent to addresses within the UK. I will ship worldwide; please e-mail for costs to your country.
    *** IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ ***
Please note that if shipping insurance is required, this will always be at the buyer's expense and is not included in the rate stated below. For items that sell for over £35.00 insurance is strongly advised.
I will always obtain proof of posting for any item(s) sent, and I will assist as best I can if problems occur, but I WILL NOT accept responsibility in any way for non-delivery or damage in transit unless postal insurance is requested & paid for. If you do not receive the item or if it is damaged in transit then, sadly, I will not be able to offer you a refund or compensation if you haven't paid for insurance. Please do not blackmail me with negative feedback as I will not compromise on this point.
This item will be well-packaged to avoid damage during transit. However, as I am sure you will appreciate, things do go wrong on occasion so please bear this in mind before leaving feedback - I would prefer it if you contact me first.
I feel it is worth pointing out that the postage rates I quote DO NOT just cover the cost of the Royal Mail 'stamp', but also include for my time and the packaging materials used.
I tend to recycle boxes or cardboard sleeves that I make up to suit the item in question, but the bubble-wrap, wrapping paper, adhesive tape & computer-printed labels are all new and obviously the cost of this - together with a nominal figure for the time I take to carefully wrap & protect your item for shipping - must be included somewhere.
This therefore means that the costs quoted to you will ALWAYS be higher than the cost shown on the 'stamp'! If you have a query with regard to the rates charged - especially on multiple item wins - please contact me before bidding or paying rather than leaving neutral or negative feedback - if you pay without question I assume you are happy with the costs quoted!
I always endeavour to send items within 2-3 working days of CLEARED PAYMENT. However, due to the demands of my full-time job, this could extend to 5-7 working days - I ask that you please be patient. I pride myself on the quality of service I provide and I can assure you that I will always ship your item(s) as soon as I possibly can.
If you do win any of my items and need them to be sent out quickly - you may have bought them for birthday or Christmas presents for example - please contact me as soon as the auction ends as I can almost always accommodate your requirements.
    Any questions? Please e-mail & I will respond A.S.A.P.
Please feel free to take a look at the other items I have for sale on Ebay.
    Thanks for looking!

In this day and age you can pay a seller as soon as you receive the email telling you you've won. (using paypal of course). Even if you're on the other side of the world at the time. Certainly in my experience I always pay for items I've won well within 24 hrs.
If you will the end, you must will the means.

Well sellers can impose whatever terms they like, it's up to you whether you agree, and if you don't, you don't bid. It's as simple as that.

But where will you find another to put your little toy cars on?
If you buy one in a shop, I am led to believe they don't even give you 24 hours. Shocking innit?

My god how dare a seller to ask you to pay for something you have just won within 24 hours, I think thats very reasonable. Nothing annoys me more than someone who wins an auction midweek then doesn't pay or messages you to tell you they will pay at the end of the week when they get paid. If you can't pay within 24 hours don't bid if your put off by it then maybe you want to keep the seller hanging on.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

to be fair I have had to put quite a lot into my own terms & conditions when I was selling a lot of stuff recently: all of it was a result of the way buyers treat sellers: i.e. if you don't pay within 7 days I'll cancel your item and resell it, postage 2 days, packing 2 days (4 days in total), refunds only if items are faulty or not as described exactly.
All of those might sound draconian but there are any number of demanding buyers about who demand they pay when they feel like it, you must post immediately they pay and by the fastest method even if you have stated otherwise and charged for cheapest and feel they can return whatever they like just because they don't want it anymore or the wife has seen it cheaper elsewhere (I kid you not!)
Buyers have sellers over a barrel: I have had stuff blatantly stolen as ebay won't allow a decent p&p charge that covers tracking parcels and will just grant refunds willy nilly in the buyers favour, oh and 'the doozy': only buyers can give negative feedback!
Ebay have a monopoly position, if they didn't they'd soon lose a large chuck of buyers!
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.
