Why doesn't your brother ask the betting site if he can withdraw the cheque in your name.

BUt betting sites can be awkward about paying out.

The cheque is very likely to be crossed "Account payee only",. It will therefore have to go into a bank account bearing his own name.

if you try to pay it into your own account via an ATM or automated type service the bank staff are likely to still check and reject the cheque. They will then only send it back to you.

Your brother will need to open a bank account to cash the cheque.

Already done that and they said no. It has to be in his name.

The guy who mentioned paying it in via atm? would that work with his name on it?

He could try but will almost certanly need id. They will no doubt charge a fee for doing it so the Bank account will be hest best option as he will receive all the money.

He has an expired passport but has all forms of id, gas bill, council tax etc. Would that be enough?

It depends on how alike your names are. Could your name not have been misspelt?

I've paid in cheques where my name has been misspelt and there was no problem.

What have you got to lose?

At least wait until the cheque has properly cleared before you give your brother the money.

2%? Where. Most also charge a fee as well as the 2%.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
