It is unlimited to a degree. If you really abuse the system then they may kick you off, but reading the forums at https://www.digitalspy.co.uk it appears you really have to be going hard at it (consistently above c.a. 100 Gb / month) before they take much notice.
Also, there are doubts as to how well ntl can actually monitor your usage.
I've had no problems with ntl, but there are a very vocal minority who would not touch them, again look on digitalspy.0 -
cable is the best choice for broadband, while adsl speed is typically UPTO ntl gives you the advertised speed, i get 10 megs and hopfully will be getting upgraded to 20, very few uk housholds live close enough to get that kind of speed.
also the technology is a lot more advanced so not only is it seperate from your phone line but also it is very reliable.
ive had ntl broadband almost 10 years and once i had all setup properly it went wrong twice, both dns attacks on ntl so using a seperat dns server solved it.
oh and fyi i currently get 10meg, phone and digital tv for about £27.50 a month as a long standing and valued customer.
cant speak to usage limits but ive downloaded over 50 gigs at a time (went through a manga phase) and not heard anything0 -
Hi annie
It is very cheap at £10 per month. I'm paying ntl £17.99 per month for 2Mbps broadband. Perhaps the £10 is an introductory offer and they'll up it later.
I think that ntl really is unlimited but there are rumours that torrents are being 'shaped' during peak periods.
My 2Mbps is fine for surfing and downloading, no complaints.
It's cable broadband though, not using a BT line. Is it cable that you intend to swith to?Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
Hi Ive been with Ntl for 5 years. No problems. It might be a matter of luck. I have 3 computers on line and I'm constantly downloading they have never put me on a limit. Plus I phone up every year and threaten to leave so they reduce the bill to keep me.You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.0

I have the 2 meg NTL broadband service and it's reliable so I'd recommend it.0

i would recommend it too put it can still suffers congestion just like adsl in some areas like mine (i am on the telewest side of ntl)there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0

I'd definately recommend ntl their customer service is !!!!!! but you seldom need it anyway, their are remarkably easy to batter down the costs too, I have 2mg for 9.99 pm and they just called this week to offer me free tv box, connection and one month full tv package free too. I know people who have been with Tiscali and having compared their experiences and others I find ntl by far the best and most reliable. standard email gives you ten .com addy's too. Free firewall lots of extra's free if you need them.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

Thanks :T
They have a deal for £9.99 for 1 year contract at 2mg and dont have to take their phone/tv package, and whilst my son does download a lot ,its not 100gb/month! tiscali said its about 25gb
cable it is then,
Thanks again0 -
We've had NTL for 8 years now and have found them reliable. Customer service has improved over the years.
I've negotiated a lower price a few times. Currently on 2Meg which is fine for what I use the web for.
Where now?0 -
ntl are the business!
Been with them about 10 years. Phone is much clearer than BT. Currently get 4mb BB, talk 24 (all calls are free to landlines) and family pack TV for £40 pm.
As said before CS is not very good, but if you ring their free phone number for retension they are VERY helpfull.
Also WHEN you get problems logon to Nthellworld It used to be run by a guy who hated ntl with a vengeance, so the ntl techies use it as well! For a while ntl took it onboard, but dropped it when the originator fell out with them again. On a couple of occasions I've placed a comment on their forum and the issue has been resolved within a few minutes.0
