Lucielle...thanks for the support and I hope you and your OH get through it ok too. This is oddly harder on my OH than it is on me at the moment, not sure why. Only found out for sure yesterday so the news is still sinking in. I doubt I will get a payout as I've not been contracted for long enough, though I've worked there for years under a different agreement. May need to fight that one out.

Igamogam...thanks for your support and words of wisdom. Calmness and a good plan are essential, I think.

There are so many of us it's happening to that it's really quite shocking. The office is like a ghost town. I can't stop thinking about my frogs and who will work with them when I go. So many endings for me, all at once.

Are you in a union Ani? If not join one. I totally sympathise with the feelings for the frogs. My job will move to a new building but nobody is thinking about the effect on the frogs so I am fighting that corner too.

Remember the slow tiny steps towards debt freedom well they have just become a little slower......... because it will happen. The date may change thats all. You now need to concentrate on the plans of what to do once your job finishes. Who you need to contact etc etc. As you are the breadwinner I am guessing this is why OH is taking it a little harder than you at the moment

Does it cost money to join a union? And which union would I join?

Not sure what your field is exactly???? Education? Health? Public sector? Yes there is a membership fee which is tax deductible - usually pay monthly and some unions have a reduced rate/waived fee if the worse should happen and you are out of work. Worth every penny if you are going to be made redundant as there are procedures that employers must follow. If you want you can PM you employer info then I could find out which union you would be best served by.

I read your diary recently ( start to finish) and was keeping up with it. I don't post often but was really sorry to hear your news, and the fact you are up so early worrying. Remember that health is more important than anything. Get a union and find out evything you can about being redundant from govt Internet sites etc. Get hubby on to it if you are too busy working and studying. Make sure you pass your course as you may need that in the future. Concentrate on your future even if it means work sliding a bit as believe me your employers won't worry about your future.
