I remember once, I was cutting DS's hair when he was about 4, (he's nearly 11 now), I was doing a grade 3 all over (as it was summer), and the plastic thing, FELL OFF!, leaving a bald line going thru the centre of his head. Oooops. So I used a grade 1 to try and cut around the bald bit, Bless him. He had pure blonde hair, and even with a tiny amount of hair on, He looked bald.
Ive only used it a couple of times since, but alwats cautious incase it happens again.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
I do my boys at home. Although they have the 3mm guard all over so it is super quick and really really easy!! They look like super skinny mitchell brothers!!!!
We have the tapered combs with our set and I have tried them out. I used them to move round the head horizontally with the longest part of guard nearest the top of thehead, obviously use one to do half way round then swap over and do the other half, working from the ear round to the back each time. But yes you use it to go about ear level where it would start to graduate in.
I cant graduate with out them but didn't do a bad job with.0 -
Thanks everyone for the tips it helps to hear others stories.. MonsterMummy thanks for explaining which way round to use the tapered combs that was what I wasn't sure about.. I thought it was longest bit to the top but didn't want to risk it as OH would've blown a gasket if I mucked up:eek: ... never mind that I save him a tenner every time I have cut his hair over the years it must mount up to hundreds of pounds.... and I never even get a tip:rotfl: a bunch of flowers once a year would be nice...:rotfl:#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I started doing OH and DS2's hair with clippers about 8months ago, OH has curly hair so with a number 5 all over his hair always looks lovely:D
DS2 has poker straight hair and it never looks quite as good - I never use my tapering combs just the number guard all over. I think I understand what you were saying MonstersMummy so may try the tapering combs next time0 -

That's just one reason why the professional clippers are so much better than the home use ones. The combs don't fall off. My first set of clippers the combs always fell off it was impossible!:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -
I've got the remington cereamic set and they are fab. I can only just get the guards off when I try so I know they'll never fall off!!! They came with the detailing tool as well but haven't tried that bit out. My eldest keeps insisting I do squiggles in the back of his head but I know he'll look like a plonker so always make up excuses!!!!0

One of my combs fell off one but I was lucky-no damage. I now, always keep my finger pressed on it to be safe while I'm cutting. I got a special hair catching cape thing from kleeneze which is like a big hoop which fits over your head and catches the hair. This saves the mess. I use a no 8 on top, 4 halfway down and 3 at the bottom for dh but for 17 yr old son I use a no4 all over.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

I cut my fiancee's hair and like tanith says...with all the money he saves on not going to the barbers...you'd think he'd buy me something now and again....at £10 a cut, I've easily saved him £100 - and the clippers were a birthday present to him!!!0

The lads got their Dad a "palm held" set of clippers ... so, no need for anyone to do it for him, no disappointment if suitable levels of appreciation at someone doing it for him aren't forthcoming
Bagged 25% discount too, simply because the box was marked:j :j

We had a similar experience to this, but it was the day before my then partner and I got married!! He set the clippers up for me to cut his hair but he'd forgotten to put the number 2 attachment on. So, I cut straight into his hair and gave him a bald line right up the back of his head  We still have a couple of wedding photos showing his bald streak. Every time I cut his hair now, even though I always check that the numbered attachment is on first, I have a flashback to that day and my horror at the bald line appearing as I ran the clippers through his hair!0
