maryb wrote:sorry to be thick about this, I just can't picture it in my mind's eye. So once you have straightened up, do you pull the pony tail down over your face or do you pull it so that it is parallel to the floor and then cut it in line with the tip of your nose?
I'm trying to picture what you mean here...
You secure the pony tail on top of your head
Look in mirror, pull the tail forward in front of your face (so you have a back to front pony tail)
Then, facing straight ahead, cut hair in line with your nose (or further down if you just want to test first.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I cut my husband's hair - he's grown his to shoulder length and it's curly, so very forgiving. Also looks much nicer long anyway. Hairdressing scissors cost about £7 at Boots, and so we've saved loads as his haircuts used to cost £30 a go. So in the past 4 years I think he's saved well over £500!0

I cut my husbands hair - he's quite fussy. I do a no. 4 all over take your time and do in different directions for the best cut eg. from left to right and forward to back, then no. 3. just above the ears and I bring the clippers upward while cutting so you don't get too sharp a line, then no. 2 for around the back (I also use no. 1 instead of shaver for the stray bits below the hair line).0

I cut our son's hair with clippers bought for £7 about 18 months ago, only trouble i have is getting him to keep still.
Trying to persuade oh to let me cut his but no such luck yet, keep telling him to go to the local college and have it cut, they are all trained to level 3 in hairdressing and i think the last time i asked it was £1 for mens haircut, which would be saving him £4-£5!!Pole Dancer In Training :rotfl::rotfl:

I've cut Mr TM's hair for nearly all the time we've been together - so nearly 10years now. After I saw the mess a so-called hairdresser had charged him for, I went and got a set ofclippers and I think he's paid to have it cut twice since then. I also cut both DS's hair (and only drawn blood once )
We're on our 2nd set ofclippers, which are also on their last legs (mainly due to the guards breaking as opposed to the clippers themsleves) but I've spent less than £40 in total on clippers, so £4 per year for everyone - Bargain!
I do my own fringe and have recently got a set of those clipper thingies that are meant to just trim the ends off long hair, but as I don't really get split ends, can't comment on their efficiency yet. Will try them again this week. I have my hair cut at a hairdressers 3 or 4 times a year at most and colour it myself too.0 -
I bought some new hair clippers just before christmas as I always cut OH's hair for him. Well in the box I also found a Right tapered comb and a left tapered comb and I can't find any instructions on how to use these...
Anyone help me as I am sure it would make life easier , I am fine with straight combs and usually taper the hair fairly successfully but I am sure the tapered combs would do it quicker I am just a bit nervous in case I do it wrong and OH has to go to work looking silly:rotfl: :T :T#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I've been doing DH's hair for a few years now - hair clippers cost 16.99, haircuts £9 a go - no contest! He's quite pleased and I've got much more confident over time! i think the tapered combs make clipping around the ears easier???Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
The golden rule is, use the longest blade ..... as my hairdressing tutor use to say 'You can always take more off but you can't put it back on'
So if OH says I want No 3 blade, I put on no 4!

I have three boys and OH who don't like hairdressers or their prices.
I have found it much easier to do a good job since I invested in better clipped ie Wahl they cost me around £45-£50)
Still I think they were paid for by the 2nd batch of cuts.
I do find it takes me a lots of time and then a lot of time cleaning up the kitchen as the hair gets everywhere. Also washing all the clothes etc. I should prob watch ths thread for tips myself!:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -
My OH gets daughter's BF to cut his hair (I won't do it, no talent that way) with the clippers that I bought for our little dog because she was naughty when I took her to the groomer
It always looks OK (so does the dog, though she is overdue a trim at the mo, due to the cold weather!)0
