First campaign of 2014 for me and it was below average as normal. I also got my 'anniversary' gift, another handbag which I don't like. :rotfl:

I have loads of old stock which have been freebies which I haven't been able to pass on, but its odd bits and pieces so don't want to use them as gifts for customers, especially as most of it is no longer in any of the books. Does anyone else have this? Any ideas what I can do with it? I was thinking of selling it on a well known auction site, but I'm not keen on their new fee system where they take a cut of the postage charged as well

  • I have a client who has had surgery to her face to remove a melonoma. She is wanting a face cream with a high SPF but a light consistency.
What would everyone recommend please? She is in her early 30's.
    Thank you.

Just an enquiry really. How many times do you all on average use your brochure bags. Obviously if they have major holes i bin them straight away. Just wondering if you all bin yours after one use or try abuse them as much as you can to save on extra costs.

High SPF - the Anew day creams are SPF25 and broad spectrum, which I'd not class as a high SPF really. I also found the Vitale cream, which should be the lightest, to be quite rich for my skin (I'm 28 with combination/oily skin).

However, on top of whatever skincare she uses, the new CC cream is SPF50 with UVA and UVB protection. EDIT: That's what it says in the brochure. I did some research and discovered the packaging lacks the official UVA logo (simply the letters UVA in a circle). To get that official logo the level of UVA protection needs to be a third or more of the UVB protection offered. No logo says to me that there isn't that high UVA protection there. Looking into the ingredients backed that up. I tried a demo and was happy with the texture of it even though it didn't give much coverage.
I used to have my Avon turnover (sales) here. They've been removed because it's not appropriate to talk about those kinds of sales as if they're realistic for a new Rep to aim for. :( I signed up at the right time, right place, and was very lucky.
  • Thanks v much. Think I will send off for a selection for her to try.

I go on what they look like when I get them, a few have been used 4 or 5 times now... others, look dead after first use... :/
I quite often keep the same ones for the same customers as well though... And those that never get books back to me don't get one at all lol.

Most of my book bags are wrecked when I get them back, as well as the books, so I've bought enough to last me the full year (actively doing 15 campaigns a year, I skip 3) and I save the ones which are still usable for other things like when I need to return a leaking item, if I'm putting samples in for someone etc etc. Mostly they seem to have been eaten by dogs/kids, been drawn on, have coffee stains, stink of cigarettes (or worse ) or have been left out in the rain and look awful :rotfl: I just bin them and recycle the books at recycling centres since I don't use them a second time for the same reasons.

I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed the paper bags seem to be much thinner, and more prone to splitting recently? I put books in with some of the deliveries and noticed you could see the book & products through the bags, and a few of them split along the seams on me  The quality of the supplies seems to be going down compared to when I started!

  • Hi, i've also posted in the benefits section but thought you avon people might be able to help me :-)

I am taking voluntary redundancy (currently working my notice period) and have been told i may be able to claim JSA (contribution based) but i have also started working as an Avon rep and wondered how this would affect my possible entitlement to JSA as although i earn from Avon I only earn between £5-10 per week. I've rang citizens advice and the job centre but neither could tell me ie would it stop my entitlement to JSA or reduce the amount i am entitled to or is there is an allowance i can earn before JSA is affected. Does anyone have any experience of this and could advise? Many thanks x

This is just my experience of JSA from 2010. I'd always say to explain your situation to them but as you've gathered, mention "self employed" and they don't always understand their own policies about it or even seem to grasp what self-employment is (i.e. what it means in terms of no fixed income).

When you're on JSA you can work or volunteer up to so many hours per week (back in 2010 it was 16 hours - this may be unchanged, I'm not sure). This is to make sure you've still got enough time to look for work. Once you're over the working hours threshold you'd move onto tax credits (much, much simpler than JSA).

You'd go into the Job Centre every 2 weeks and fill out a self-employment form when you're there. I never saw what was on this form because it quickly became clear we (my husband was also claiming and self-employed) were no longer entitled to JSA. I'd say to have your accounts for the previous 2 weeks with you to show what your incoming money was, what your outgoings were, and therefore what earnings you've made. I understand that's not very practical and could be awkward with Avon being on a 3-week cycle. E.g. in one 2-week period you could take in and pay out no money. In the next you've had deliveries so you've paid in your turnover and paid Avon.

When you go in for your first meeting, just be upfront about the fact you're going to be working X hours per week self-employed. The person we saw for that first assessment didn't understand at all and even got us to sign something saying we wouldn't be doing any self-employed work at all, even though we kept saying we would! She never mentioned the form to fill out every 2 weeks and we only discovered it 2 months later, which is when we stopped claiming anyway.

I hope your experience is a bit smoother.
