It is. Given the success of the Kindle, though, I think the Amazon Android tablet, when it appears later this year, could well give Apple a run for its money.

It depends if they offer something new. I think most tablet makers have made the mistake of bringing out competing tablets that don't add anything to the concept and are just a bit cheaper (The EEE Pad transformer is an exception). It might take something like Windows 8 to risk unseating the iPad.

My Brother-In-Law is National training manager for HP and he has just found out on Friday that they are no longer doing PCs, laptops or tablets. He has a conference call this morning so will keep you updated.

Yes, HP is pulling out of mass hardware manufacturing and becoming a software vendor. It's easier for them to make money on software rather than relatively low-profit stuff like hardware.

Unfortunately it's likely to be a slower withdrawal from the market, unlike the Touchpad. Retailers can always sell new computers if they're running Windows, but they're struggling to sell a tablet with a dead operating system.

I wish they'd just hurry up and slash the price! Lol- this isn't good for my nerves and my Argos reservation expires today :s
Please remember to thank fellow MSE'rs
  • Yet in Oz they have been selling them for $98 (about £60) since 2pm this afternoon.

  • How do you reserve one? I am in London and it's out of stock everywhere for store collection. I can order it online though for home delivery.
