Yes Lidl is a rip off on many things. Cheapest place I've found for loo and kitchen roll recently is Wilkinsons (Wilkos). If you have one near you go and check it out, their prices trump all the supermarkets.

    It's like 10p a tonne.

Nothing in LIDL is cheap in my opinion, the veg doesn't stay fresh either! Not worth it.
Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt! :D:D

There are a few things which are absolutely corking value compared to other places, such as very large hanging salami - about £3. You can pay that for a handful of wafer-thin slices of salami in Tesco!

Cotton buds cheap, chocolate cheap, but not much else more than that.

People who automatically think that LIDL/ALDI/NETTO are cheaper than the other supermarkets are very much mistaken. Their combined market share is something like just 3% of all UK supermarket retail trade. If they were really the cheapest they should be far more successful.

ALDI keeps liking to tell people it won some supermarket of the year award or something. Pretty strange for a supermarket that doesn't take credit cards, charges for bags, takes deposits for trollies and my nearest store doesn't even have baskets lolol What a joke.

    I hope the chain fails.

My Grandfather swears that ALDI's is the best supermarket ever, the only thing I like in there in the chocolate. I've found the fruit to be bland and go off really quickly and like others have said, things often to be the same price as main supermarkets.

So because the price of bog paper has gone up you've ceased to be impressed with Lidl?

Try using both sides. They'll last twice as long then.

Nor impressed with Lidl at all today. Went to my local "cheap" Lidl and noticed that they increased the price of toilet paper Floralys. It went from £1.36 to £1.66 in just one week. People still think that Lidl is cheap!!!

I can always tell when Lidl have their Cushelle loo rolls on offer - EVERYONE in town is staggering around with the mega packs :D

Try using toilet paper only for number 2's, use a wet flannel for number 1's. ;) Your paper will last a lot longer. :D

Lidl is cheaper than everywhere else. We find nothing wrong with their fruit and veg either. Occasionally we come across another store that will match Lidl, like Supervalue but when doing a full shop there we find our bill goes up by £5-£10. We're very cautious shopper too.

Lidl for me then - there being no Aldi nearby.

So what's cheaper in Lidl than Tesco or ASDA? Name something?

    Count your lucky stars!
  • I have found Lidl cheaper than the majors. Being a single man I dont buy a lot of groceries at once, just the esssentials to get to the weekend and then a small top up. I save at least £5 per shop when compared to others.
Before I go tho I check the prices online and if they are cheaper elsewhere i dont buy. Trying to be a sensible shopper.
Funny thing is, the children prefer Lidls chocolates and cola when they visit. I had branded cola and Lidl cola and they left the dear stuff??
Well....... I thought it was good!!

Tesco are regularly doing £5 vouchers in newspapers (about 50p spend for £5 off is good). Also Tesco take coupons so you can get lots more discounts, Lidl don't take any. Additionally Tesco give you clubcard points which you can double up - recently I bought £30 of cat food for nothing just because I got rewarded for doing my regular shopping. Additionally you can womble and use the Tesco price guarantee to get refunds if your shopping is cheaper elsewhere.

Really when you add up all these easy to use tricks, Tesco (and ASDA) work out to be far, far cheaper than Lidl.

There's a fantastic thread in the forums on couponing which saves me thousands of quid a year easily!!
