Not really an option as they don't have a credit card, also they will charge you for the privelidge, all travel agents do, as we are talking about First Choice I don't think worrying about the company going bust would be at the top of my list of what could go wrong.

I'm supprised that they won't grant an extention, my Thompson paper work for our holiday makes it quite clear that you should not worry if you can't make the payment on time and suggests extentions can be arranged, but I booked though one of their high street shops, maybe the online staff are less sympathetic. One thing worries me though, if things are soo tight you struggle to make the last payment, what are you gloing to do for spending money? not really much time to save.

Which is why I said 'obviously this doesn't help you now' ...

Anything can happen on a holiday. A fee of a few quid is nothing compared to the protection a credit card can give you!

Not to mention in an emergency it means you dont have to worry about not having money for food or accomodation, medical treatment, the list goes on.

Where do you live? If you're near London you could go to Metro Bank and open a credit card account within an hour tomorrow.

Would they charge you an admin fee to change the date/location of your holiday? One year we were supposed to be going away in June (with First Choice), found we couldn't afford it at the time so changed it to October and a different location and weren't charged an admin fee (can't remember how close it was to final balance but quite close.) If there was no fee you could change it to a date where the final balance wasn't due yet and then change it back on Friday?
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Trouble for some people though is that they can't get a credit card not that they don't want one.

shops collect balances at 14 weeks which allows them the leeway to give customers and extension. however when you book online the balance due date is 10 weeks before. therefore they cant really offer extensions. usually depending on how much you have paid, you might be given a further extension as long as all cancellation charges are covered for when you want to pay. companies are clamping down a lot on this at the moment.

As richardw says (always the voice of reason :-) ) A Pay day loan or Wonga. Short term finance is perfect for these situations.

Holiday companies run on very small margins these days. Its just business and part of your agreement with them. All they can see is that they can cancel your hol, retain some of your money and resell it to someone else. Simples.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
