Hi Glad
Im unable to get out alot as im disabled and need a wheelchair to get around etc, so although I love bootsales..alot :j , I dont get to hardly any, maybe 2 a year.
I normally make a list of what I need/want clothes wise..normally smartish clothes like trouser suits, coats, boots etc and look purposely for them, stuff that would cost a fortune new..if you know what I mean.
We managed to get to a bootsale 3 weeks ago for about 1-2 hours (hubby put blanket around me etc and took a flask of coffee-still bloomin cold though). I managed to get a good quality Monsoon Trouser Suit for £2.00 (new about £140+), M&S Trouser Suit for £1.50 (new about £90+), Laura Ashley Jacket for £1.00 (new about £100+), Next BNWT shirt for 80pence(tagged at £26.00), 4 M&S, Next Shirts/tops for £1.10 (new combined £75+)BN Pair of Leather Kicker Boots for £2.00 (new £60+), Cashmere Burberry scarf for £1.00 (new£40+), M&S leather handbag for £1.00(new £35+)and some other bits. Took £35 cash with me and came away with about £15.00, and this included bacon butties....I was well chuffed :j
My downfall is that I do love expensive clothes and shoes, but as you can see I manage very well on very little and i only do this a couple of times a year, so I dont break the bank at all. I always haggle!! Hubby hates itI never pay full price for anything!! I probably spend about £30-£70 a year on my own clothes, but these are all from either bootsales or ebay etc.
Being at home 99% of the time, I find ebay a better place to sell items and gives me something to do and keep me busy on my OK days. I stay warm and comfortable and dont feel obliged to sell for pennies like I would do at a bootsale

You should be able to leave hospital in the clothes you were wearing when pregnant, hopefully you wont be in hospital very long anyway. I had some trousers that had a drawstring waist that I wore throughout my pregnancy and wore those home. After a few more days I was back into the clothes I wore pre pregnancy.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
glad wrote:thinking about this I'd say that children tend to grow out of clothes so quickly that mending and repairing isn't an option, and as they reach their teens they do want trendier clothes, my two are happy with basics for playing out and a couple of nice/fashionable outfits for 'best'.
Timewise I'm happier to let them play out in jeans with a hole in the knee than spend my evenings mending and darning, that would just take time away from the time I spend with them.
You could sit and mend something whilst with your kids! Or teach them the skills. I was the only person at uni in my house in the 1st year with scissors, a set of screwdrivers, and a sewing kit. The times people borrowed these things! Never hurts to be practically minded.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Don't know how much mending I'll do, but I'm definitely on for a "Make do without buying new clothes and shoes for 1 month" challenge! I luuurrve clothes, but have so many I've still never worn, or things I've forgotten abut from years ago, yet I still think I NEED something else.
So count me in - "I, Mrs Thrift, solemnly promise to (try to!) not buy any new clothes, shoes or accessories in April 2005."
Ouch, it already hurts.....0 -
I'm afraid I dont buy that many clothes, its not unusual for me to go a month without buying clothes.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Me too Tiff. I wear leather shoes from C&A......bought years ago.........I get them heeled/soled as they need it.
I'm not bothered about buying clothes regularly and I'm happy to wear things that are donkeys years old.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j :cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Give blood, save a life. 0 -
With "vintage" being in this spring / summer wearing old stuff from the back of the wardrobe makes us all fashionable anyway, wether we plan it or not, hehe!0

I have found I have a kaftan style top and a pair of wedge sandals;)
And if anyone spots me wearing socks and sandals, it's ok - Elle magazine said its ok!
Seriously, the temptation is there, although Im not one of these go shopping every weekend type of people, but even if Id have bought no clothing or footwear this month I'd have saved a fair few quid.
Some of us dont buy much anyway, but I spose this sort of links into the bare bones idea on another thread, something some of us can cut back on!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
