    OK...

Took the afternoon off to wall mount it yesterday afternoon. Nightmare.

Firstly the screws were unbelievably difficult to find. The first b&q had the right size but only 1 packet of 3 screws (need 6). The second b&q had loads of packs of every screw but the one I needed. Ended up at screwfix (we have a local trade counter) where the (very helpful) sales guy went through a number of packs of screws to find me the right one. (They needed to be 65+mm long and the head had to be over 10mm diameter).

Got home, opened up the TV and checked it worked before wall mounting it. Thought I'd also better check that the wall mount definitely fitted the TV before drilling holes in my wall. Well, the holes all lined up but the bolts supplied were 30mm long and the holes on the back of the TV didn't look anywhere near that long.

Not wanting to destroy my new TV by screwing in bolts that were too long I thought I'd better check with the experts - Toshiba.

Called the CS line. "Don't Know...these guys will - here's the phone number"

Called them: "We have no idea, not sure why the guy gave you our phone number. Call this number"

Called new number: "Oh, you've just reached CS againg. I'll transfer you to our technical support line." Call dropped.

Called Toshiba HQ. Put through to Tech support: "We wouldn't know but we'll put you through to someone who will." Guess where I end up?

    Back at CS. *sigh*

Anyway, the guy there could tell I'm pretty unhappy by this point so he says he'll find out for me himself. BUT it's now past 5pm and the people who would definitely know will have gone home for the weekend. He did give me his direct line and told me to call on Monday morning for an answer.

    As I said, nightmare.

Anyway, I decided that as I'd unpacked the telly I'd set it up on a temporary stand for the weekend.

    My review:

The picture quality is brilliant. I popped into comet on Thursday evening and saw it lined up with Sony's, samsung's, panasonic's, and LG's. In it's size it had the best picture.

Now I have it set up in my home I can see why it got such good reviews. It really is lovely.

I have 2 other LCD TVs in my house: A 32" Hyundi (sp?) Imagequest Q321 and a 17" Relisys. The picture quality on the Hyundi (imo) is top notch.

The Toshiba is noticibly better than the Hyundi (even though I've not seen them side by side).

However, the sound is better on the Hyundi - the Toshiba doesn't seem to have as much guts (best way I can put it). Mind you I haven't had a chance to play with the settings yet so I might be able to improve it. I should say that the Hyundi has detachable speakers of a good size/quality so I might be spoiled there.

Basically I'm very, very pleased I paid the extra £115 for this TV over the £399 ones I've seen. I've seen those up against LG's in Tesco's and they were awful. I've seen the Tosh against LG's in Comet and it was better than the LG.

    *Edit*
Just to clarify, I tried it on a SD Freeview PVR and and Xbox running XBMC through component at 720p. Note that the xbox cannot do true HD on video so I could only check HD with still photos. BOTH SD and HD gave great picture quality.

    An update.

I have now mounted my TV on the wall.

Toshiba couldn't give me a definite answer on the maximum length of the bolts but said the depth of the mounting holes was 20mm.

I popped doun to b&q and the closes I could get was 16mm. They are holding the TV up now.

BTW having fitted the TV I think the reason the bolts are so long is because there are spacers supplied for fitting should your TV have a curved backplate. They are 10mm long, so 30mm (supplied bolt) - 10mm (spacer) = 20mm depth.

It might have been nice if they had made that clear in the instructions.
  • Oh dear, I think i've made a bit of a mistake. I ordered the 32wl66 from Play.com and when it arrived it had a moulded European plug on there. I called them for an adaptor but i've received a kettle lead and now a different power lead which is also useless (figure 8 type lead).

Dont fancy hacking the plug off and putting a 3-pronged plug on there due to guarantee concerns, is there an adaptor I can easily get on the high street? We have an adaptor but its just for shavers (we tried it anyway but blew the fuse I think)

Sorry for being dim, but what should I do?

First off, Play.com should not be supplying electrical items in the UK with a Euro plug fitted.

Secondly, have you double checked that the TV doesn't have a kettle lead connection, many LCD TV's do.

I would get back on to Play.com and ask for a UK market TV replacement if all else fails.

Yeah, I was a little surprised by this myself. Play supplied a kettle lead but there is no socket and the lead that has the euro connector is fixed/moulded to the TV, so no joy there.
    Would this do the trick?:

As a side note, I take it any warranty wouldn't be affected by the fact its Euro? Tosh UK I guess wouldn't touch it?
