HELP!
I've made yoghurt in the slow cooker but it has curdled. That's not right is it?0 -
I realise that the answer is possibly somewhere in the midst of MSE but I really not managing to find it!
I would love to try and make yoghurt but I dont have a thermos or yoghurt maker and was thinking it might be possible to make it in a slow cooker.
So what do you think or is there an alternative way?0 -
I had no idea about your question so I googled it and you can.
I don't know if I can put external links on but google came up with lots of recipes. Guess what I am going to try making this weekend. Thankyou, I would never had thought you could.£36/£240

It would be a good idea to check how hot the milk was getting if you have your slow cooker on low, as if it gets above 50C the culture will be killed.
On the lowest setting (warm) my slow cooker will get the temperature up to 60C in an hour.
This is another method -

many thanks - to you all - I really should have read ALL the advice first - I was so excited that I boiled the milk added the yoghurt and put it on full!!! (fortunately only just put it in the slow cooker so will turn it off till it cools down a lot or do you think I should think about making custard with the milk)
So off to mr T's to start again me thinks0 -
All I do is this:
1.1 litres/2pints fresh milk
55g/2oz dry milk powder (marvel)
60ml/2oz live unflavoured yoghurt.
Method:
Scald the milk (Bring just to the boil), add milk powder, leave to cool for about 15 minutes, add the yoghurt to the milk, mix.
Place in a casserole dish (I use a Le Creuset) and place in a warm place with a lid on for about 3 hours till set. DO NOT be tempted to mo9ve it in that time or it will seperate.
Makes about 2 litres of delicious natural yoghurt.I Believe in saving money!!!:T
