Are you a FLOP? Who has the most organised freezer?

I have a small chest freezer, its farly organized, I use several different coloured bags to keep things separate. When I need something its far easier to take out 7 carrier bags than 27 packets of veg, chicken portions , bags of soup etc!
I have also started using a menu planner so when things go into the freezer they are being jotted down as a meal say 3 or 4 weeks away.
Sorted~!
nora...... I use plastic clothes pegs to keep the peas shut!0 -
I used to keep stuff in separate drawers when I had an upright. Now I have a chest, I keep them separated in large plastic boxes, which are easy to lift out. It's got one basket that fits on the top, which came with it, but I'm planning to look for a couple more when we visit the tip with the Xmas tree.
All the 'long-term' stuff goes in there (it's in the garage), and then the HM ready meals (in takeaway containers) and bags of veggies etc that are in use I keep in the freezer compartment of the FF inside. I have a list for that one, but not for the chest, as I just add to the shopping list as soon as I take out the last one of anything in there.0 -
I'm feeling really proud of myself - I have a four drawer freezer and listed all it's contents on 2nd January before I went to the shop for fresh things. I was able to have two evening meals last week (out for a curry on Friday) and will be using up more meals this coming week without having to buy extras - other than fresh fruit and veg.
I want to use up as much as possible and start rotating food around as some of the portions have been there a while.
I also use clips to keep my frozen veg like peas closed.0 -
Diddy under bench freezer here too, would love a tall one but I moaned for this little one and the kitchen to be rearranged so will only be replaced when it breaks!
I list the freezer regular, add to the list as I put more in it, I do try to keep bottom drawer for open bags, middle for our food/what we will all eat and top for the kids food & breads etc. Pots of homemade things etc are labelled, recently found that masking tape works out cheaper than lots of sticky labels so I use that instead. It gets defrosted every couple of months max so don't tend to have anything lurking that has been there a while. One day I might be more organised...........

lizzyb1812 wrote:frugalfairy - are the drawers in your freezer on shelves or on runners at the side of the freezer - was just thinking that removing one drawer might give you a double drawer height space to put that big chicken in?
lizzyb
Hi lizzyb, they're on runners. That's a good idea, but all the other drawers are so stuffed with things I don't know whether I could manage without one of them! I wondered about that at Christmas when getting the turkey but in the end decided to go for a fresh bird and send OH out on Christmas Eve to collect it.
Thanks for the thought. One of my aims for 2007 is to clear out the garage enough that we can get a small chest freezer in there. Seems crazy when there's only two of us for most of the time but somehow my freezer is always full to bursting and I'm always wanting more space.

am I right in saying that a full freezer uses less electricity than a half empty one? that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
just got some stock out to defrost for soup tomorrow...at least I hope it's stock...may end up with white sauce or stewed apple!weaving through the chaos...0 -

My large chest freezer was bought when we moved here nearly 24 years ago - must be ecellent value, don't you think? I do find it difficult to organise - keep meaning to hunt for some baskest that would fit properly! Anyhow, have had several really embarrasing finds - like the beef that was seven years old!! - but not lately, I'm pleased to say! The answer seems to lie in regularly defrosting and making lists! My propblem is we don't stick to adjusting the lists after the first two or three weeks.... must hunt for those baskets -any useful links, anyone?Resolution:

I find it is possible to write on the plastic takeaway contains with black permenant pen and when you wash it up afterwards it normally comes off with a little bit of a rub.0
