I do have my own method of organising my freezer, but it's a bit higgledy-piggledy as I've got an under-counter integrated freezer inside and a fridge freezer outside. I hate the system we have, but we cant redo the kitchen until next year so having to live with it.

At the moment I can't decide between a chest freezer and one of the full height freezers with shelves/drawers. I think I could probably fit more in a chest freezer, but it would get used as a worktop by DH while he is tinkering with his engines and that really puts me off! :rotfl: I don't want to have to dig through greasy clothes and a myriad tools before I can even open the lid!

When we had a chest freezer at our old house I had specific areas of the freezer which were for certain types of items. It was before bags for life, but that's an excellent idea - especially for ones that might be a bit past their best with holes etc (hope it's not just me that has mangled bags lol!)

I use plastic baskets, 6 in total they do break after a few years of use. then on top the 3 wire baskets that came with the freezer. This is how i organise it
    Bottom left - Roasting joints
    Bottom middle- sausages/burgers
Bottom right- full bags of frozen veg
    Middle left- mince/stewing steak/chicken/ steak
Middle middle- Pastry, Lots of cheese, ice lollies, sausage rolls/sliced cooked pizza for DS packed lunch
Middle right, par boiled spuds for roasties, chips, potato products
top left, Fishfingers, chicken nuggets, quiche etc quick stuff for DS if needs snack
top middle HM meals ie make one freeze one, individual meals for one for OH/Kids
Top right sliced cooked meat for packed lunches, sliced roast meat leftover for a quick roast.
Fast freeze bit bread and Pizzas.
Have a frigde freezer in the kitche with open veg and bits for the meals for the week.
Nearly all of the stuff in the freezer aprat from the fishfingers/nuggets/pizza are all items that have
    been reduced to pennies!!!!

When I first bought my chest freezer it had no baskets and I couldn't find anything. Then I found www.hamsterbaskets.co.uk Brilliant and tailored to your freezer. Now I can see things easily and get things out. I keep a spreadsheet on the computer of the contents, but as with everyone, if DH goes hunting, all bets are off.

They sound like exactly what I need. I was thinking about saving up for an upright freezer so I could find things more easily as I hate having to unpack my whole freezer to find things at the bottom (cursing and turning the air blue the whole time :rotfl:) so these will definitely be a cheaper option. Thank you :T:T:T

Glad to help. They do seem expensive initially, but they pay for themselves in spades. (and lack of back pain:D)

  • I recently re-organised my freezer and i am using plastic baskets bought at the £ shop - Hamster baskets look brilliant! but a little expensive.
I made a freezer inventory on excel listing what's in there and amounts then just alter the amount when i take something out, it's working so far :-)

It's still cheaper than a new freezer :D

I bought an upright freezer when my chest one broke & it's so much better! I have a drawer for meat, one for veg,one for home made 'ready meals' ect..I found the chest freezer was too hard to orginize.

Top shelf for freezing stuff at first and stuff I know I'm going to need soon. Middle shelf for home made meals & soups. Middle drawer for bread & vegetables. Bottom drawer for meat & fish. All of them are nice and full at the moment, as well.

However, I "trump" Spike by also having a list of the contents on an Excel spreadsheet!

I admit to being partially OCD, but it does save having to open the door - and the air I've spent good money cooling down falling out - to remind me what's in there.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
