Best oven chips I have ever eaten are McCain's Homefries.

Yes - I'd agree with that. I have made my own and of course they're not so high in fat and taste just as good, if a little different (I use paprika and black pepper with a little olive oil on mine) but if like me, you want something to sling in the oven quick when you've been at work- then McCain's Homefries are the best we've ever tried.

Wow-the majority overwhelmingly in favour of the McCains products-thanks a lot for your views. Really not looking forward to my Aldi wedges now-perhaps not such a great choice but I will update you on my thoughts on them Sunday (due to have tomorrow).

Why not. I never shop in Aldi so I couldn't judge them either way. Probably the same for a few of the McCain enthusiasts.

I don't buy much food in ALDI but some of their products are better that well-know brands at a fraction of the price (like washing liquids and dishwasher tablets).

Your thread made me put oven chips in the shopping basket :( They are cooking in the oven right now, but I don't feel too bad because we haven't had oven chips for about 6months :) Planning to smother in ketchup mmmmmmmmm.

Er... oh yes, OS, er...also managed to pick up some reduced fresh bread rolls to freeze, 30p for 6 large crusty mini baguette style ones, so its not all naughty food :P

sounds like a chip baguette opportunity :D
  • The 'finest' / 'crunchy' chips have a very light batter coating which makes them cook crispier on the outside.

I generally prefer the thickest ones of any brand, and have had fairly good results from Discount Brands At Tesco chips. They're slightly fussier over oven time/temp than McCain but taste okay.

I think with the cheaper brands you get more 'offcuts' than with the more expensive brands which are more selective as to acceptable shapes.

The best oven chips are Tesco Value. We've tried various others - even McCains - and we all prefer TV.

Sainsbury Taste the Difference are fantastic; a very special valentines day treat with steak. I won't buy them too often, otherwise I'd just eat them all the time.
