A question for Scots men

Hi all

Nothing moneysaving in this query but have no idea what other forum would be better for this.

I wore my kilt to a wedding recently and did the whole "real" Scotsman thing and didn't wear anything underneath. I spent the day feeling self-conscious and wasn't exactly energetic in the dancing for fear or indecent exposure.

Mind you it was so damn cold I can't imagine it would have been that exciting.

Do people do the whole au natural thing really? Not sure I'd do it again.

If your sporran is heavy enough, your kilt is weighed down at the appropriate place in front ;), no matter how energetic you get with the dancing. Folk might well see your bum though when you're twirling around!
  • My husband loves to wear his, but because we live in England he mostly wears pants because dumb tarts usually tend to try to take a peek at his junk. Always. Sigh.

An ex of mine was scottish. We went to a family wedding and they were all kitted out in the kilts. After getting completely trollied they decided to do their own interpretation of a highland fling. Was a real eye opener I can tell you. Part of the reason why he quickly became an ex ;)

It is deemed appropriate to wear something with the kilt when dancing. Hire companies often make it a condition due to stains on return.

If your kilt fits properly & is a "proper" set up (i.e. sporran isn't cheap tat) you need not worry about it unless you're jumping around like a lunatic, i'm perplexed as to the cold comment though, a proper kilt will also provide more than enough coverage to avoid any cold feeling, heck i've worn them in January and never felt cold yet!

My OH wore won when we married in February with snow and ice on the ground in NE Scotland and he said it kept him lovely and warm.

Sorry Torry but I always had you down as a man :o My Bad

Re wearing kilts - there must be that same chilly killer updraft? One of the reasons I don't get on well with skirts!

The other reason being trousers are just so much more practical, and comfy...

I do love a man in a kilt though *swoon*

It was in the papers recently that a kilted groom sat on his new brides knee and left skid marks on her pristine white wedding dress. She wasn't pleased!
