Need urgent advice... wish i had read up on parking eye before replying to them!!!!

Options
I got a parking charge notice from Parking Eye a few days ago, and sadly I had replied to them by email :embarasse and while making the general enquiry I gave away the fact that I was the driver _pale_

I got the penalty because according to them I didn't have a valid ticket... but the thing was I did have a ticket... but being an idiot I typed in the wrong car reg number!!! :(

I still have the display ticket on me and the reciept from the shopping mall which shows that i got a refund for the ticket when i finished shopping... but i don't know if this is going to help me in the appeal...

i know most people are saying ignore... but seeing as i already confessed to being the driver... i'm confused as to what to do... should i write in appealing or would ignoring the so called 'penalty' get me into trouble at this point???

Help!!!!

There is no such thing as an appeal to them, they only want your money. You have a ticket, so you can't owe them anything so jus ignore from now on. You will get a few extra threatening letters but that is all.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

but when i purchased the ticket i typed in the wrong car reg number....

so I'm just thinking if my ticket still counts as valid if I ever have to present it to anyone as proof?

Just keep the ticket, no doubt they will write back saying appeal unsuccessful. However if you told them you paid then they have suffered no loss so have absolutely no claim! Be prepared for the usual letters off them but that as far as it will go.

Did you get a ticket on the car or a letter in the post? It matters not, but normally the reason for entering the reg number is so they don't need anyone at the car park. They record you entering and leaving and see if your VRN matches one for which a ticket was purchased.
However whatever their silly system is the fact is you paid to park. So no loss = no case, and they cant charge you a penalty for not playing their silly games.

I got a letter in the post.

LOL... on the one hand everyone on the forum is saying ignore.... whilst my mum is having a near panic attack and telling me to pay!

Oh the pressure :rotfl:Just to calm her down I'll write them a letter, however pathetic the system is, atleast I have my back covered.

If you do need to write make sure you emphasise that the parking charge was paid so you expect the invoice to be cancelled.

Personally I would write the letter in front of your mum, but send it to someone in Timbuktu. :p

    Seriously - FORGET IT.

This forum is correct and current with our 'ignore' advice. The templates are old and pointless, stop looking at the main site and stick with this forum board.

Please tell me you are not about to send any letter to a scammer, surely you are not going to waste your time and money? Do you reply to phishing emails as well that tell you that you've won the Nigerian Lottery?

It's not a fine, ignore it. But you and your Mum need to do a bit of reading to be ready for the scary letters, which you also file in a drawer marked 'ignore, scam'!

Here's the first page of the current forum posts, almost all about private parking co's (known as PPCs to us). Did you realise how much current info is here on MSE on every subject, there's a whole new page of 'PPC scam' posts every single day. It's not just this thread on the subject! :

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/...play.php?f=163

You and Mum should read/refer to the permanent sticky thread 'PPC letters' at the top, for your preview of the rubbish they will send to the registered keeper. And please both read 'welcome, please read before posting' (LOL!) to see the advice and to click on the must-see Watchdog link. Your Mum simply must watch that, I promise you it will change her mind. Then just choose any other lower down threads at random, read any which are not about real Council PCNs.

You will soon understand why this is no 'parking ticket'.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:

    Help!!!!

This is exactly the same thing that happened to me, with our begrudgingly-gained mutual friend Parking Eye. I also made the error of emailing, but was cautious to not use the word appeal (it was in fact a short and sweet statement informing them we had purchased a ticket). The fact is that you, like I, have fallen victim to this bunch of con-artists but luckily, we were both smart enough to Google them (unfortunately, I suspect many don't and just cough up).
But the facts are that under English contract law, all that a private parking company can sue another citizen for is for actual losses incurred... as you, like I, paid for the time we were actually parked in one of the sites that Parking Eye purport to manage, their clients suffered absolutely no fiscal losses whatsoever. Therefore, we "owe" them nothing. Private companies cannot issue penalties, and Parking Eye's figures plucked randomly from the air are, in fact, de facto penalties and are, as such, ILLEGAL and UNENFORCEABLE. That's why parking companies never go to court.... in the past, judges have found against them on the simple fact that under contract law, private companies cannot penalise another private individual.
I'm a little ahead of you on the series of threats that they send in the post, but we both have the pleasure now of being able to receive letters from them safe in the knowledge that they are wholly meaningless and it costs the company money every time.
Keep the parking ticket, I still have mine, in a pile of scrap paper from Parking Eye. Read the Sticky at the top of this forum so that you know in advance what's coming in the post. And keep researching on this forum and elsewhere.... you'll soon become increasingly clued-up about this scam and confident about ignoring this bunch of brain-dead f****** idiots.

    Relax. Ignore. Smile! :D
