From what information I can find, ISP's are allowed up to five days - so I guess that means that if Supanet have given you the MAC by Monday 21st, then they're still in the clear.

Apparently, an ISP can be fined up to 10% of its turnover for failing to comply. However, whether this is one year's turnover, or just one month's turnover, or just one day's turnover, is not clear.

It's also not clear whether they will be fined 10% for each separate violation, or if the 10% figure is maximum regardless of the number of violations. If the latter is the case, then it means that once the ISP has incurred the 10% fine, then they cannot be fined any further, meaning that they no longer have any incentive to avoid further violations.

A 10% fine could be a major deterrent to a competitively-priced ISP, but it won't be such a big deterrent to those who were charging you over the odds to begin with.

  • Hah, Ofcom are about as much use as a chocolate teapot when it comes to things like this. Look at the Great e7Even Debacle, no internet service for some people for months and generally appalling service all round. What did they do about it to help customers? Absolutely fook all.
Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.
  • I am having the same problem with Supanet.

  • Same here...I've been waiting for the day (when by law they have to give MAC codes) and now they are refusing and say they want £50 as an "Admin fee" surely they are breaking the law?

    £50! That is rediculous.
Also net suppliers are no longer allowed to charge for issuing a Mac code or to levy any fee on the switching process.

"A charge is an impediment to switching," said a spokesman for Ofcom, "and no obstacles should be put in the way of customers once they are out of contract."

They are not allowed to charge any fee ... see this link

Don't suppose that helps at all with your situation, I am glad I'm not with them ... just hope I don't get any trouble when I ask ntl freedom for a MAC code.
