But why would someone with a Select account, which is a full current account, be issued with a card without the Link facility?
Debt free and staying that way!

Select account is credit searched so will not have atm access restricted only the basic account will which isn't credit searched.

My select account card is an 4751 17 which is the offline card and think these are the ones issued with select so you may be sent one of them. either that or they are changing the card design?

Can't see them issuing a new card because of a redesign, you'd just notice the new design when you're current card expires.

I'll wirte here if I receive any cards. But I agree that, having a select account, I shouldn't have received this letter.

    thanks all

The OP omits to mention that his account was originally a Key account and changed to a Select account a few weeks ago

    Hi everyone,

Recently, I opened a Key account at RBS, just a few days before they stopped that kind of account and replaced it by "Basic Accounts".

Today friday, I went online and I noticed that the name of the account had changed from "key Account" to "Select Silver Account"! I NEVER asked for this!

Without being a huge surprise, I learned that this account is charged £8 per month!!!! Which obviously, I do not want to pay for, not caring about their useless insurrance things.

I called customer service today and basically they said I shouldn't complain as this account is an upgrade, therefore a "better" account! The moron on the phone did not care at all that I did NOT want it!

Anyway, they said they couldn't switch me back to the "Key Account" since it had been stopped and I certainly don't want the "Basic Account" because you can only withdraw cash from RBS ATMs and it's not convenient at all, which wasn't the case with the Key Account.

My questions: Is this legal? Can I do something except closing the account?

My credit score is not that good so I don't think they'd switch me to the normal and free "Select Account".

Also, note that they refuse to give me a proper Debit card with this account (the offline one), I'm stuck with the 4751 16xx one, and no overdraft either! So not only I have to pay £8 a month but I don't even get the good stuff that should come with it!

Anyone working from RBS here please? Have you ever seen that happening before?

    thank you all

It is possible that the mailing was prepared some time in advance of the letter arriving , for example I received a mailing from AA Savings today about faster payments and that letter is dated "July 2011" and states personal data is correct as at 18 July 2011

RBS are slow to update all its data following account type changes , whilst the account has changed mailings may still refer to a previously held account type

Ironically to OP was complaining about his card type in the earlier thread

Another explanation would be that the bank is changing the cards for customers who hold the RBS version of Nat West's blue debit card on a current account and restricting these cards to basic bank accounts now that the cheque guarantee scheme is defunct

correct, I didn't mention it because I didn't think it was relevant since the account was switched to a select account a long time ago and I just received the letter today.

    thanks
