RBS - "New VISA Debit Card due to Technical changes" letter received!

Options
Hi guys,

I just received a letter from RBS saying:

"Due to an upcoming technical change to our systems, it is necessary to replace the RBS VISA debit card you hold on your current account. This change means that you will soon be sent a new VISA debit card in the post".

Anyone else has received such a letter?
i'd be interested in knowing exactly what kind of "technical change" is so important that VISA debit cards have to be replaced.

I hope I'll still be able to withdraw money from all ATM machines!

thnx

  • select account.. that's the basic account right? (looking at their site, it would point to yes.)

If so, then you'll be limited to RBS ATMs

As a RBS Royalties gold customer.. I've received no letter...

Basic Accounts have changed, but not the Select Account AFAIK

There is nothing on the RBS website about any technical changes to the VISA Debit Card for Select Accounts

I've not received any letter from RBS, so it may be a problem with your particular card.

Have you had any problems with the card recently ?
Is the expiry date approaching for your old card ?

I have a current plus account with Natwest, now known as the Select account, and havent received any letter. AFAIK, only those with Step and Key accounts will be issued with new "Basic Account" debit cards. Although there are customers with old current plus accounts and probably the new Select accounts that still have online full auth cards, so maybe they are changing those cards to offline cards? Out of interest OP, what are the first 6 digits on your debit card?

Maybe they are changing it to an offline card then, I cant see any other reason to change it. I wonder what will happen to my first reserve savings visa debit then, as thats a full auth card. Have you called them to find out why they are changing it?

Some RBS card are being rejected by other atms other than their own - bit of a bank street war thing I think.

    Heres an article from online.

Someone else made the following comment on the other RBS thread .......

According to the bloke i chatted to on the Nat West online chat said this..

We are starting to send out new debit cards without the link facility on it from 11th october.
We may send out a replacement debit card to accomodate the limited cash withdrawal facilities.
A letter we send will let you know if you are due to expect a new card.
