But, it wouldn't be very realistic if Corrie and Stenders types were all talking the Queen's English. (Whether the programme as a whole is realistic is another issue...)

They don't necessarily need to speak the Queen's English - they just need to stop the lazy talk! It's extremely bad.

I'm sure I heard John Humphries suggesting that politicians should 'fess up' this morning on the Today Programme. He is normally so pedantic about language (I think he wrote a book about it!)
  • Yes, Lipidicman, I noticed that on Today as well! Mr Humphries did seem to use verbal inverted commas when saying it though, or perhaps that was just my imagination.

I'll give him that, his tone of voice did change. But still, this is the BBC and I think Radio 4 should maintain a standard. Anyway, it is better than hearing them banging on about reports being 'sexed up'!

Ah, now I can introduce another word....

It's actually "thara", as in "thara clever ******* thee" (I don't care for your sarcasm) and "thara reight 'un thee" (you're a fine one to talk!)

    YB

Is that "reight" pronounced as "reet"?

    Tha knows ;)

  • What really annoys me is not the lack of correct punctuation, bad spelling and poor grammar, it is more the lack of effort into researching the story.

Nine times out of ten, it's as if you're reading a press release with it's inevitable slant.

The one time the story is properly researched, is when it's about some pop singers' latest indiscretion and then I'm not interested anyway.

Edit: not very good for post number five hundred, must try harder.
Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.

I love all these dialects and colloquilisms ;)
