NatWest removes Payee Details in internet banking - so complain!

When making online payments through NatWest internet banking, it used to be possible to insert payee identification reminders on your payee list - for example, "Nikki's ISA", "Our Savings Account" etc.
During recent "improvements" to their internet banking, NatWest have seen fit to remove this useful facility.
They won't reinstate it without a lot of customer pressure. So if it affects you, please go to the NatWest website and make a complaint.

But that is NOT the name of the person or company to whom the payment is to be credited.
If you are making a payment into a Barclays ISA (for example), they will not have a payee called STCLAIRSISA.
If that is all that is necessary, why was there previously a facility to add payee identification for the customer's own guidance?
Or am I missing something?0 -

I think your missing something I dont see what the issue is.
If you call the payee NIKKIS ISA that will show up in your payee list for future use.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
The name of the person or company is only required as a reminder to yourself anyway; it's not a working part of the payment process. BACS, and faster payments, only use the sort code and account number, and the customer name isn't checked. If I pay somebody called Smith, but put Jones in the account name, then Smith will still get the money as long as the sort code and account number are correct.0

For both RBS and NatWest online banking, when you create (or amend) a payee, you enter the following:Name of the person or company
Their account number
Their sort code
Their reference
You can enter whatever identification info you wish into the "Their reference" field. Although for bill payments, you should only enter your account reference number so that your bill is payed.
Subsequently, when you create a new payment, this info - (Their reference), is displayed alongside the Payee Name - (Name of the person or company), so that you can find the appropriate payee from your list. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. This backs up what StClair says, and I thank you both for responding.
Are you both absolutely certain that what we enter in the Payee's Name field doesn't matter?
If so, why did NatWest / RBS previously provide the facility to create personal reminders in addition to payees' names?0 -
For both RBS and NatWest online banking, when you create (or amend) a payee, you enter the following:
If you are paying a bill (e.g. Gas or Electric company bill), when you start typing the company name, if it's a listed company, select their name from the list of suggestions and the form will prefill their account information for you.
Thanks for responding, but this "reference" is not what I am talking about. Customers used to be able to 'hover' the cursor over a payee's name to reveal a personal reminder of the account - for examples, see my original post. This facility has now been removed.0 -
I'm with the OP on this one. I have a few accounts dotted around and for each one, the payee name is the same (me) so I used the 'personal reminder' to indicate which account was which. When the new look RBS site arrived, I went to do a transfer, there was no easy way I could see which of the many payee's (all with the same name) was the correct one for the transfer.0

Bumped to ask if EarthBoy and/or stclair (or anyone else) will kindly respond to my post #7, please.
I really would appreciate definite confirmation of this. Thanks.0 -
If you want definate confirmation then have you used the NatWest online "Help 24x7" to ask this question so that you get the answer direct (rather than third hand from this forum).
But...
If you are mainly worried about identifying various different payments to yourself, then since both the "Payee Name" and the "Their Reference" are displayed in the list of Payees, you can put your own account name in the "Payee Name" and put any detail you want in the "Their Reference" to differentiate between them.
Personally, if I was setting up a bill payment to a company, then I would use the company name as the "Payee Name" field, and the bill payment reference in the "Their Reference" field, nothing else, why tempt fate. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
