absolute disgrace......
i live in the countryside, one cash machine where i stay (clydesdale). there is an RBS branch - no ATM only open 3 days a week.
SO im stuffed...... thanks very much RBS.....
Not everyone that has bad credit will have bad credit for their lives, so dont expect me back with ya, and if i ever win the lottery big... dont come crawling to me to invest my money in your schemes...
And to be frank here..... Full account customers cost the banks more, with unpaid O/drafts, loans, credit cards....
How many Millions do the banks write over every year as bad debt, and these are people that had accounts with an o/d facility......
That is obviously a load of rubbish. If they lose more money from normal accounts then they would all put everyone on basic accounts.Perhaps we should have let just 1 bank fail.
Private profits and nationalised debt. with all thats recently gone on, does no MP wish to stand up and be heard about this? Where were the voices saying "Jeez, we've got a huge under class problem that's going to burst, perhaps we should invest a bit more in our society". not 1 voice was heard arguing for investment and funding for our falling down schools, poor rail industry, lack of a full time paid fire brigade or coastguard service. Nope, just lots of noise when the banks fell under their own greed.
Why not boycot just one bank all together?
Maybe because beyond giving people like you a smug sense of satisfaction seeing a bank collapse - and subsequently millions of people worrying about how they are going to get their money - a bank failing will cost the UK a lot of money, inconvenience millions and have zero benefits whatsoever...
And for the record, our schools aren't "falling down", the rail industry is adequate (not amazing I know, but far better than people give it credit for), we have a full time fire brigade and although maybe not ideal, the coastguard is also adequate.
It always astonishes me how many people in Britain have such a hugely negative attitude about absolutely everything. If there were less of those people it would be a far happier country to live in!
And just as a general comment, it is not "punishment" anymore than Tesco deciding not to sell baked beans is a punishment for people who like baked beans. Banks are businesses like any other and they can impose whatever conditions they want. Don't like being restricted to 1 set of ATMs + the post office? Go somewhere else then. Why does everything have to be a "right" nowadays?0 -
Callum9999, I couldnt agree with you more! :TDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

My account appears to be called a "current plus" account, do you think this would the old name for a "select" account rather than a "basic" account?
TIA
Sorry, I've found the answer to my question, the NatWest website states current plus account no longer available, replaced by select account.Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.0 -
@callum9999 hit the nail on the head did that.0

What are people always so quick to grumble and then so slow to change banks?
As callum9999 says, if this change is a major inconvenience, then move!
I personally value post office access. Santander annoyed many ex-Girobank customers by giving post offices a two-fingered salute for almost all their accounts. I left. Simple. No big deal. They made a business decision. I made a consumer decision. I find the Co-op much better. Nearest branch is 16 miles away but no problem because I can access my accounts in the way that I want to.0 -
There cannot be many businesses that are expected to subsidise their customers. I don't see that banks should be any different.
When I opened my first account, cashpoint machines didn't exist but there were more branches even if they closed at 3:30 pm and didn't open on Saturdays. I wasn't given the option of being paid in cash.
My account needed to have £100 in credit at all times to avoid being charged for every cheque, direct debit etc.
Life isn't free and it doesn't have to be fair. We must make the best of the hand we are dealt.

Banks are like any other business. They are there to return a profit to their stakeholders, be that the tax payer or private shareholder. If the banks cannot upsell the customer added services then that customer becomes unprofitable to them.
It's just a way to force the customers the bank don't want out the door. Trouble is one does it, they all jump on the bank waggon and follow like little sheep.0 -
Basic bank account holders ain't treated like 2nd class citizens, they are treated as 3rd class. 1st class is reserved for the customers whom pay a monthly fee, 2nd class is the free standard accounts and 3rd class is the basic bank accounts customers.
At least with regular bank accounts, the bank could try and sell extras & rakes money in if you go overdrawn.0 -
Sorry to be dense but both my mum and I have Current Plus accounts with Natwest. Will we be charged on this account? We were both moved from Step accounts after being told they were closing down.
Edit: Sorry I should read posts, shouldn't I? Guessing we won't be charged (yet!) thanks0 -

2nd and 3rd class citizens? Why do you have to be so ridiculously melodramatic. Do Waitrose treat me like 2nd class citizens because they price their food too high for me to afford? No - they are just a business targeting certain consumers. Targeting certain people does not equal punishing or mistreating everyone else.
This is just like all the people moaning we live in a police state because of all the CCTV cameras etc. Learn what a police state is actually like, or what "second class citizens" are actually treated like, before you make such stupid comparisons.0
