Have Lloyds not be doing this for sometime on their basic account ?0

so the people who bank at lloyds must be coping with limited machines or finding alternative methods around the issue0

Yep, they can open a savings account with a cashcard and transfer the money across and use that in any machine, daft but true.
Edit: Dont know if this would work with RBS / Natwest, are they restricting the card issued on the first reserve account to. Surely in the end this just costs them more money to administer accounts which are soley used to make transfers costing them money again to use a cash machine costing more money, which they tried to put the block in place to stop this (in the LTSB case)0 -

If the banks behaved themselves and didn't charge excessive fees then the customers wouldn't be asking for them back. And until the test case there was no precedent against claiming and we all know the banks just twisted things there.
Where was the bank's social responsibility when it was charging excessive fees and against the law, for many years?0 -

Well I had a "loss making" LTSB Cashpoint, principally for *my* convenience in making ATM deposits, ha ha. The lack of Link ATM was a very minor inconvenience. In rural areas cash was available at Post Offices. It's Post Offices, not banks which need support in rural areas. The banks are long gone.
In fact the coverage of this issue by so-called consumer organisations has been typically superficial and grandstanding. There is a bigger issue of rural exclusion to banking than *most* Natwest/RBS basic account customers access to their cash. *That* is what the so-called consumer organisations should be talking about.
A few posters here have indicated the new Natwest/RBS "Link free" cards won't work in *their* "last ATM in town". Lets hear the so-called consumer organisations focus on that specific effect of the new account. I've suggested individuals who have a case for Link shoud just apply for a "free" Select account (without an overdraft) before sounding off. I stand by that advice though I think the prospect of £6/day unauthorised overdraft charges should be a worry. Where are the so-called consumer organisations on that issue?
I recall that "impossible to overdraw" full service current accounts were supposed to be under development. Do I recall correctly or not? Where are the so-called consumer organisations on that issue?0 -
One way round it would be for Basic account customers to open a First Reserve savings account, which comes with a Visa debit card, which can be used in any ATM. I have one, and havent heard anything about the card on this account changing (yet).Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Prehaps there could be a small charge of say 50p if another cash machine other than those which are free are used.
As others have stated we are very lucky to have free banking in this country.0 -
Once again, people are outraged that a service they receive for no charge whatsoever, and which actually loses the service provider money, is not to their exact specifications.urs sinserly,
