We went to the doctor this morning, who was very good, I must say. He has recommended instead of prescribing antidepressants that hubbie speaks to someone from the local mental health team. We are awaiting the call, but can anyone give me any ideas as to what to expect from this please? It sounds very worrying, but of course the situation is serious, so I understand why - just not sure what to expect!
Hubbie's having a bit of an off day since then - is sleeping again...An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

I don't suffer from depression myself, but hubby has most of his life and was diagnosed as bipolar/manic a couple of years ago. He takes the highest "safe" dose of Lithium, together with anti-depressants, which has stablised him and means he no longer has the terrible lows he used to have, though he often complains of feeling "flat" (can't have it all ways I tell him:rolleyes:).
His doctor is great and has referred him to a phychiatric nurse who sees him regularly. He also visits the local MIND and has free therapy from a professional there (though their funds are limited).
Being referred to a local mental health nurse has benefitted him a great deal and, to some degree, taken the burden off me. It's really nothing to worry about ... they're there to listen and help. I wish you both the best of luckWins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -

Thanks so much for that - it helps to understand the processes involved etc. Can I just ask do you go along with him, or is it something they do on their own? I will do whatever it takes and I'm sure work will understand if I need to leave early...0 -
Hi all
Thanks for the sweet posts yesterday. Love and hugs to all
Am seeing the doctor tomorrow. We rang the docs but they said to come in on tuesday and get a new sicknote. Not that i'm panicking at all. No really. have no idea what to say - He isn't the most empathic chap, my doc - You do feel very silly talking to him
Am seeing mental health lady a week on thursday and afterwards a chap who does CBT - Sounds good. But I feel like I'm wasting their time and letting everyon down.
Am so tired of everything, you know?

My OH comes with me.I asked him too, and also to give his his point of view - Sometimes I think that when you are on the inside you don't see it all?Tiff Appreciation Society Member #50 -

We weren't sure whether or not I should go along with him, so he went on his own the first time and then felt happy to continue to do so. They do say it's perfectly OK for partners to go along ... personally I felt it's something he needed to do on his own, but do whatever you feel happy with. It maybe he'll be happier to have you with him initially.
Please ask away if you have any more questions ... it's good to know our experiences may help someone a little.

Good to hear from you angel and glad you came back - the guys are fantastic on here.:T

Well angel, the good thing is that you've got the experts in.;) You've got a very sensible gp. The CMHT (usually 2 people from there I think), will visit and ask questions and basically evaluate your OH's status hun. They are experts and can help support someone through a crisis period at home or they'll monitor OH or they may make other recommendations. They may want to speak to him on his own at first - which is a good thing because they'll see him as he is. They may ask OH if he wants you to be there while they talk to him but only because that's his right. They may also want to speak to you and of course you can ask them anything.
Try not to worry hunnie - they are great at accessing all kinds of help for you both.Whatever you think angel - try and remember that they are there to help OH. Well done nippy - post whenever you need to hun.;)
