The minus - you have no way of knowing what item(s) have generated the voucher, unless you check all items on mysupermarket or the likes.

True but most people would do the same before they went shopping in Tesco/ASDA. However it would be handy for finding any discrepancies.

The main drawback for me is the minimum spend which Tesco's doesn't have, although you don't have to worry about Sainsburys rejecting your voucher either.

What is good about this voucher? It only works on branded items - not own brand stuff - so this means the majority of things like fruit and veg, fresh meat, milk, a lot of bakery items and frozen items will be excluded. The branded items are often as much as double the price as the own brand. You MUST return within a week to spend it, and you don't get anything extra back for the inconvenience (unlike Asda's 10% cheaper guarantee which includes own branded items in the comparison too). Also, as with all these schemes, they compare the total cost of the items with the competitors - so cheaper items will immediately off-set the expensive items. The voucher is also dependant on a £20 spend with a maximum value of £20 - so they've learned lessons from the Tesco DTD fiasco and protected themselves.

I see this as a scheme that will retain existing Sainsbury's customers, rather than pull in new customers (except via people misunderstanding how the scheme works). Personally I was shopping at Asda and using their 10% guarantee - their comparison basically demonstrated to me that across the board, the shops are roughly all the same price. Either you put in the effort and play the system and buy the cheapest items at each, or do as I have and just start shopping at Aldi where everything is pretty much the same price or cheaper. Note how the big four only compare with each other - not Lidl or Aldi...

I agree with your post above - although, I still end up spending quite a bit on branded items e.g tea, coffee and toiletries, marmite and all sorts - so it'll be good to shop a little closer to home and still get the good prices!

"Do not be silly", said the Man, "for a frock alone cannot do that".
"True", said the Lady, "I will have the shoes and the bag as well".

Quite a bit. Yes it's not perfect but it's still got a lot of good things. Most people buy branded items, so for them it's a good deal. If you buy branded items AND are willing to jump through ASDA's hoops then ASDA will be better but usually there's only one or two super offers at a time and that makes the ASDA deal more hassle.

I'm not sure where you get the idea that it's one week to spend it, it appears to be two although one week wouldn't be a problem for most either

And I love that they print the vouchers off themselves - saves my printer and ink!! :)

Sadly not much on offer at Tesco's or ASDA's at the moment. I would have loved to have taken advantage of the Cornflake or innocent offers but they've finished
  • I am just back from Sainsburys (cannot get to Asda or Tesco) but didn't spend £20 and dont buy much branded stuff so it's unlikely to be a help to me, but a customer was asking someone to explain it to her and the staff we saying they had no idea how it works, no-one had told them yet.....
