i remember when i sold my first house at 22 i had a rather handsome deposit of £29,000 put in my bank account. Went to front desk in my bank asked for appointment to see an advisor about savings account, without taking my details the lady fobbed me off saying they were fully booked and to come back next week, i tried to explain i had a large amount of money and she cut me off repeating to come back next week.
I walked into bank next door, said the same, they made me a cup of tea, set me up a saving account, i was so impressed with the service i decided to set up a current account with them too.... went back to bank A to close the account and get a bankers draft to deposit the cash with new account, same lady said yep i'll close your account, swiped my card and i saw her face drop, she called over another advisor who tried to railroad me into a side room. I took great pride in saying in my loudest voice i'd been here early and they didnt want to know so i was taking my money elsewhere.... bit like the pretty woman scene :rotfl:0 -

i have been with my bank about 19 years. Recently i changed bank accounts and went into my bank to close my account down, hand in the form etc.
The person i spoke to never said anything about me closing it down etc? It made it easier for me really but i would have thought they might have said something?
Your thoughts please?
Probably could not be bothered, or perhaps assumed you were closing the account as you were unhappy with something eg overdraft charges and quite frankly the staff member you saw just wanted the easy option and no aggro.
If you were that bothered about it why did you not make a comment to them or speak to them before you opened the other account?0 -

Who cares, does it really matter ? Would you have preferred the hard retention line ?0 -

Yes it is an option on the standard (interbank) account transfer form. If you trust the new bank and administer it without your intervention at one end or the other then you just tick the box that authorises them to tell your old bank to transfer the final balance when all the DDs/STOs etc. are sorted and then to close the old account.0

I'm looking forward to telling Lloyds TSB where to shove their CPD marker when my new FlexAccount is set up in 7-10 daysI spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0
