What about just get a sim when you get to the US. The add a data package. That's assuming you have an unlocked phone. Besides, there is plenty of free WiFi in the US anyway.

What I actually want is about 3GB of 4G US data starting in early September for about three weeks, ideally including tethering

    Any hints appreciated!

I was in Spain in December and bought a Carrefour data SIM.

It cost 5 € and you can then top it up as you wish. Either at the time or in the store. It seems to cost approximately 1.2€ a day for up to 100 MB. If you go over 100MB it slows but doesn't entirely stop working.

I put it in a MiFi type device and our various WiFi enabled devices all worked well with it.

The only "challenge" was that it came with a PIN enabled (the pin was on the carrier the SIM came with) and it took a little while to work out how to turn the PIN off with the device I have.

Sadly, if you don't spend 3€ a month on it, as far as I can tell it stops working so I'll have to get a new one,

They photocopied my passport when I bought it, there seems to be a need for some form of identity with Spanish SIMs.

Other than my complete lack of Spanish there were no difficulties buying it.

    Hi,

I'm going to be staying for a week in Seville and there isn't a Carrefour particularly close to the hotel I'll be in. I was thinking perhaps I could order one of these and have it posted to my hotel before I get there.
Carrefour have a buy online page:
    carrefour.es/telecom/tienda-online
But I don't see that dongle there. Is it one of the options?

Also can the SIM be removed from the dongle and put directly into an unlocked phone?

    Thanks in advance.

    Mobile Broadband SIM (3G).

I'm not sure if any of the three there match that 1.21euro/day for 100MB pay as you go deal.

    Tarjeta Carrefour m!s ahorro
    Tarjeta Carrefour
    MicroSIM tarjeta Carrefour

    My phone takes a MicroSIM.

The choice that you take is MicroSIM tarjeta Carrefour and Alta nueva prepago datos con 5€ de saldo for 10€.

You don't need to buy the dongle if you have your own equipment.

If it's for a phone, then why don't you buy a phone SIM?

    Hello all,

I am going travelling starting in June this year and will be going to the USA first, for 3-6 months (VISA dependant) and then probably Canada and South America (or vice versa).

I have an iPhone 5s which I am going to tranfer to the '3' network and either get their PAYG SIM with an Add-on or a 30 day rolling contract, I believe both of these allow for use abroad, including the US, with the 'Feel at home' part of the plan.

I also have a Dell Venue 11 Pro tablet which has 3G capability/SIM slot, I presume this will be unlocked as it is not a mobile carrier's tablet.

I am wondering if it is best to pay for a larger allowance for my 3 SIM package and use my phone to tether to my tablet, or buy a pre-paid Data SIM before I go, or buy a local Data SIM when in the US, anybody got any suggestions or experiences?

    Thanks in advance. :)
