Mashed potato (even when very watery) can be used in breadmaking - makes bread rise beautifully...or used with other veg to make soup
and in pastry making. There's a gluten free recipe here but you can replace rice and cornflour for plain. http://www.peter-thomson.co.uk/glutenfree/short_crust_potato_pastry.html
and there's a recipe (not Delia's) using mash in a chocolate cake - you need to scroll to the bottom http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A5334220 -
How do Iuse left over mash in bread ???
I have a bread maker - would I just throw it in with the rest of the ingrediants or do I need to adjust the recipe ??
Thanks all.

Good tips.
dont forget if you want to thicken soups, sauces etc. and dont have any cornflour you can use instant powdered mash.
It has the same effect and doesnt seem to clump as much as ordinary flour as long as you have fully dissolved it in cold water first.Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?

I had some left over boiled new potatoes and nearly a whole punnet of cherry tomatoes that were going wrinkly. I diced the potatoes and lightly fried them in a tiny amount of olive oil with one of those small packs of pancetta, some sliced onion and the tomatoes. We had it for breakfast with some baked beans - it was delicious!Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0

Having said that, I have some veg in my fridge that may be beyond rescue. Any ideas whether the following can be used and, if so, how:- Greens: whole plant (like a cabbage). Distinctly yellow on the outer leaves, not sure what it's like in the middle.
- Four or five very sorry-looking excuses for asparagus stalks; probably a couple of weeks old
- Dodgy looking beetroot - at least three weeks old. I have a horrible feeling they may turn to mush when I poke them.
- Very squishy peppers
You could chuck all the veg in a pot with some stock and make soup? You can also freeze it into individual portions.

I need to confess!
I've chucked out some carrots that were looking very very sorry for themselves and there are 4 chocalate mouses in the fridge 1 week past use by date. I don't eat them, DH likes them but he won't touch them now their past their date so it looks like they will end up in the bin to!
Naughty me!!!
I did a roast chicken dinner tonight so it'll be leftover chicken something for tea tomorrow. I've got a jar of tomato sauce for chicken so think I'll use that. Going to spice it up a bit with some sweetcorn and peas and anything else I can find!!!!!!
Welcome to all the newcomers - I love this this thread because you get so many idea's!!!!!!!

Can I refreeze bread?
Defrosted freezer today and simply didn't have the room to put a granary loaf in the other freezer - it was the cheapest option to leave out.
Am miffed to throw it away - any suggestions?0 -
