Help done something stupid on a train

Hi All,
I recently did something really stupid, which I sincerely regret and was wondering if anyone had any advice for me.
I know it's no excuse but I'm on JSA and money is tight so without thinking I jumped on the train without paying, everything went ok until I was leaving the station then I was caught by a plain-clothes Revenue Protection Officer without a ticket. I panicked, worried stiff that I would end up in a police station that I gave a false name and address, he then questioned me under caution and said that I'd get a letter in due course.
I realise that I've been a complete idiot, and would happily pay any fine due for my stupidity, and to avoid a criminal record. However, I am not sure whether to contact the train company and explain everything or whether that would make things worse and it would be better to keep quiet and hope it all goes away...
I realise I've been stupid and don't deserve help, but if anyone has any suggestions.
Thanks,

that would be digging your way out a hole.Target Savings by end 2009: 20,000
current savings: 20,500 (target hit yippee!)
Debts: 8000 (student loan so doesnt count)
new target savings by Feb 2010: 30,0000 -
what help do you want?
you gave them a false name and address; what are you expecting to happen seeing as they won't be sending you a letter? if they send you a letter you won't be there, if they visit you won't be there.... etc etc.
they've got no idea who you are or where you live0 -
Fantastic....evading paying for a fare is not a criminal offence you don't get a fine for it but giving a false name and address is. Did the RPO not check the information you gave was correct? I have few suggestions. Don't do it again and keep quiet about it.ninja99boy wrote: »Hi All,

Thanks,:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

And go by bus/bicycle for the next year or so.
Hope you get away with it. And buy a ticket in future, next time you may not get so lucky.0 -
I wouldn't have thought that the revenue officer had any powers at all - he certainly couldn't prove anything... leaving a station without a ticket is NOT a crime, the amount of times I've caught a train & discarded the ticket when no longer needed is numerous.
To even ask for your address you'd have to be asked whilst *on* the train.... there is no way to prove you didn't have a ticket when you were on it, after the fact0 -
That's the funny thing, he seemed to do a check on his mobile then started to caution me. I know they can't trace me but was worried about if I use the train again he might recognise me? or is it the case that as he didn't do his job properly nothing won't be said?
@scheming_gypsy @dave101t think your right will keep quiet about it, just my conscious I've got to worry about.0 -
I hate to say it but maybe manage your money a bit better oh and dont do it again.0

Whos name and address did you give ? I hope not a real traceable name and address ?0

@dffc79 I was skint and had to get to a friends house in an emergency, thought I'd get away with it, looks like I might
