Hi again guys.
Looking at you posts i see you guys find this hard to believe. It has genuinely been paid to me.
I am not going to post the letter up as i really just don't feel comfortable doing that. As you can see i don't use this forum much. All i was really hoping to do with this post was to find out if anything similar had happened to anyone else?0 -

I think you meant to say:scottie21uk wrote: »I am not going to post the letter up as i don't actually have a letter.
I have never heard of a bank writing off a debt that large. Mistakes happen yes, but a far more likely scenario is they arrange a repayment plan for you to pay down the debt without interest.
Oops, didn't mean to feed the troll.Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -

Doesn't matter guys you are being incredibly narrow minded with me.0

I could also say. I even got £5,000. You believe it or not, it does not matter to me ...
How come a bank give £900.00 for free, unless they are making a blunder ....????
Writing something is easy whether people will believe it or not is another matter ....
Anyway, I myself see Santander does not deserve a bad publicity, I my self have experinced they are good if you play by the rule....
At least I have benefited a lot from high interest rate and switching incentive ...scottie21uk wrote: »Doesn't matter guys you are being incredibly narrow minded with me.0 -
Just don't believe it. Sorry.
This is true. A small group of customers who applied online were given too high an overdraft. Customers who were in the overdraft were to have most of it wiped off but expected to pay back a little - so although the OP is telling the truth, i am a little surprised he has got £900 scot-free.0 -

Why not just go to the office and get some Santander headed notepaper and make the letter up. Oh right you don't work there ok! They obviously outsource their Trolling - they don't want a news of the world phone hacker finding you working in one of their branches!
Yeah I had a similar experience my wife moved to Santander from BOS due to o/d charges her account is always using it and we are trying to sort things out hence the move from BOS.
Utterly failed to move all our direct debits returned our Mortgage 3 months in a row. Had to pay our D/D's individually and had trouble closing the BOS account because some D/Ds came out of it leaving us paying for two O/Drafts. Not bad customer service actual complete incompetence.
Then excitingly we got a letter on the 14th Aug (dated 9th Aug)from Santander saying the £900 overdraft (familiar sounding figure isn't it) was reviewed and was now rearranged to £0. So as of 10th august the balance went from £300 overdrawn with an o/d limit of £900 and plenty of D/D's to come off yet to £300 Overdrawn with O/D of £0 and a phone call asking to arrange to paying it back forthwith, oh and we're adding on the fees for the direct debits they have rejected. They have also recovered some direct debits which were already paid.
So now you know where your imaginery £900 came from. No doubt this debacle has now damaged my credit report and made it a lot harder for me to sort out my current mess.0 -
Just moved to another job from Santander, the OP's story is true, this happened to a number of people and a number of internal communications were sent out about it, the reason for it is that this was a rather large !!!!-up given Santander's reputation for being an extremely careful lender.0

Cheers Anon that clears up my curiosity as to why. Guess i was just one of the lucky few.0
