Well managed to chomp that frog :) Caught up with the accounts I do for the local branch of a charity - just been putting it off and off and off. Anyway all done and it balances which is even better :) Now going to keep on top of it rather than having a panic on every couple of months

There was a rare break in the clouds today when I got home so I thought I would have a wander around the garden - don't seem to have got out there much in the last 2 weeks! I sat in my favourite spot albeit a bit damp, in a patch of spring sunshine and enjoyed what I could see. Everywhere I looked the garden sparkled having been frequently drenched with April showers this week. Its a patchwork of fresh, vibrant, youthful greens - a sight to soothe tired eyes and zinging nerves. The early flowering shrubs are still doing their thing and there are plenty of daffodils still out. Everywhere is punctuated with rosettes of pale yellow primroses - they peep out from unexpected places and they always make me smile when I see them. The hellebores are past their best but provide some architecture whilst the old faithful herbaceous perennials begin the stir from their winter hibernation. The forsythia and the winter flowering honeysuckle have already finished but there is still a heady scent in the air from a large viburnum near the front porch. There are some humongous boulders in our garden left by lazy builders in the '70s who moved them a few feet away from the extension they built badly. The boulders are now covered with the nodding creamy bell like flowers of avens.

I think my garden is best at this time of year although there is something all year round I love the colours, the smells, the anticipation and promise of something new in Spring. Soon the garden will lose its youthful green as the trees come into full leaf and the creamy yellows will give way to purple mauves and pinks and then a short lull until the full technicolour of a summer garden - bold, brash, blowzy and impossibly tall with a heady heavy scent.

The garden is a happy accident - no great plans and colour schemes. I know what I like and if it survives here then I like it all the more! There is plenty of wildlife and hideaway corners. There are warm spots and damp spots and fabulous shade for hot days. It is also productive - herbs and soft fruits mainly.

On this day 5 years ago I decided I would like to share my garden and set about creating something others would enjoy. The idea that on my significant birthday weekend ( this weekend) I would open it up. But about 12 months ago I realised this wouldn't happen as that well know open garden scheme doesn't think my wibbly wobbly paths and uneven lawn come up to scratch - my happy accident garden with its untidy bits, stack of moss covered plant plots and rotten log pile will remain out of sight and I have come to realise I really dont mind in fact I am very happy as now I can invite who I want for tea and cakes on the lawn (ahem) OK uneven grassed areas and I can enjoy its peace and tranquillity without worrying about the large patch of nettles at the end of the garden - great for the butterflies BTW!

Yesterday I slipped quietly and gently into another decade. Not sure where the last one went but I am here with nothing added dyed or taken away - OK I admit I the occasional leg and underarm wax and follow my mother and aunts golden rule - moisturise :D but otherwise its a case of WYSIWYG:rotfl:

I intend to quietly grow into into my next decade and so far despite some joint niggles and a couple of things that worry other people more than me, I feel no older than I did 20 years ago! My mother, when she reached my age, was diagnosed with terminal cancer on her birthday and as we share a birthday it made yesterday a somewhat reflective one. She died exactly 6 months to the day later and I find it very strange that in 6 months and one day I will be an age my mother never reached. Went out for a lovely meal tonight with OH and DD2 and plan for a quiet weekend.:)

Hope you don't mind me popping in as I discovered your diary about a week ago and have been quietly lurking :o.

Your garden sounds bueautiful, I wish mine was like that, but it's more of a yard and a patch :p, but my cats like it!

I hope you enjoy your birthday weekend :).

Around this time next year I'm moving into another decade too. It's a big one for me, approaching 40, and I've been reflecting on life and my family and all kinds of meaningful stuff, such as not being able to pretend I'm a young person anymore. Been winging that one for 5 years or so but I'm now definitely looking my age which has been quite a shock lately!

I'm definitely of the opinion that it all just keeps getting better. :D
