Have been working on things and doing a bit of lurking here and there inbetween decluttering, calculations, recalculations, dodging showers, getting caught in torrents of August (AUGUST:eek:) rain, taking cat to vet ( annual booster),washing, dusting, vacuuming, washing, vacuuming, cleaning DD1 pet mice out which she forgot to do before she went away for weekend:mad:,shopping, cooking, baking, washing, vacuuming, entertaining DD2 friends with long put off sleepover pizza and chocolate cake;smiling, crying, laughing, gardening, recycling, walking, running ( away in my head - dont run due to cream crackered knees), talking, emailing, screaming shouting, rattling with painkillers for my recurring head ache, dreaming, washing, dusting, vacuuming, dreading the return to work next week - difficult year ahead, and just generally losing MYSELF in this maelstrom before going to do some more cleaning..................:(
Tonight is a quiet night in front of TV.....but not before I put on another washBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

We have two, and they rule us ....:o0

Cats - we have 2. Accomplished hunters - rodents mainly - which is why we have them. But sometimes fall into the caetgory of pampered pet -they can both do 'cute' when they want to:rotfl:Dont know who said it but where dogs have owners, cats have staff - so true:) Infact I may use that in my signatureBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Hi Igamogam,
Happy new diary
Tea

Today is the last day of the hols. Tomorrow back to work after 7 weeks off. Children back on Monday. It’s going to be a difficult year for all sorts of reasons so why I am reflecting I thought I would add this to the diary. Well if truth be known I have been writing it on and off since I started the DFD – tomorrow is a new month, a ‘new year’, a so a new start and it seemed right somehow to add a bit of a biography
Be warned, it may be long and probably not very interesting but I decided to put it here so in future if anybody takes up the thread could look back and say ‘aaah I see’, or ’oh that’s why’ and’ mmmm that makes sense now ………………..’:)
A bit of background:
Family: OH have been together 30 years and married 22.Dont know if thats a:D or a . 2DDs six years apart and 2 cats. OH has had 3 periods of unemployment in last 15 yrs. Currently working but hates his job its not what he worked/studied for but its an income. Works 4 days a week. I work FT. DD1 about to start third yr at university and we support by paying the rent – its been like a second mortgage.
Occupation: Teacher. I have a class of 8 and 2 support staff, sometimes 3. It’s not conventional. We work with some of the most difficult to place children in the authority I work for. Actually that’s not quite true, those are placed elsewhere, but they are certainly those who nobody wants in their class- completely understandable. Its stressful but we laugh a lot. We have to otherwise we would disintegrate. There are times when I want to gather them all up and bring them home and then there are times when………well its those times we all dig deep. I tell my staff you don’t have to like them all the time, just show them respect. They, the kids, have chaotic sad lives and the saddest thing of all is that they are only 4,5 and 6 years old.:( I am sure they will crop up now again in this diary.
Health: It’s OK. Well there are the crumbling knees and the recurrent headaches and the need to lose weight – I’m working on that and its going fine. There is another problem but it doesn’t cost me money other than extra trips to a specialist hospital but I am told it’s not going to kill me:) I’m sure I’ll revisit this too.
Financial health: MY LBM was when, realising we had 3 years to go on mortgage, the CC debt was infact equal to the outstanding mortgage – stupid, stupid, stupid and I have no idea how it got like that………last 2 years have been difficult( see above) but we don’t have extravagant lifestyle – OH has expensive extreme sport hobby and although I moan about it I know he doesn’t always buy the latest must have gear. We don’t have expensive foreign holidays; DDs are not high maintenance in that they do not want all the latest gadgets/phones/fashions. OH and I are no followers of fashion either. We eat well; enjoy trips to theatre etc but not to excess, so where does it all go?
We have to run 2 cars – rural location. I have 100 mile daily commute and the cost of fuel has taken its toll – working closer to home is a none starter – will probably explain why at some later date - I drive a small low emission car ( £30 road tax) which is very economical to run …………… but I probably drive too fast;).
We live in a 140 year old house or thereabouts, which can be a bit of a money pit, but we will not be moving. I really am at a loss. My SOA will remain private however. I have some plans of where we can cut back and am working on them.
Journey so far: well I have ‘lurked’ on MSE and the DFDs for the last 4 weeks or so getting to know the ropes and having a go at a few challenges. The challenges are fun and some of the diaries remarkable in different ways. I will post an update of where I am every now and then – well probably more of a list of “to do’s”, “to don’ts” and some “must changes” and hopefully a few little celebratory milestones along the way.
OK enough said. Its nearly a new year……………. If you lasted to here – thanks:)Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi
