Homecall have neen registering Kingston Communications customers for their service, which is remarkable as they have no agreement with Kingston Communications!

So, if you live in Hull, you can agree to their service and it will cost them a lot of wasted time. Perhaps you could then sue them for breach of contract!

Failing that you can pursue a complaint on-line:

  • Some great ideas for dealing with cold callers, when they get through, are seen in this thread. The equipment used will however ensure that some proportion of the calls made end up in silence.

This is not only rude, it can also cause anxiety, especially to those who are not aware that it is probably a failed attempt at a cold call. It is also "illegal".

Don't call the Police, it is not a criminal offence, but Ofcom has powers to take action against anyone who does it as a pattern of behaviour.

In the 18 months that it has been in existence, Ofcom has started to use these powers only once, last month.

Anyone interested may wish to look at

To see my contribution, you can view "Graham Satchell's report on silent calls"

Ofcom has got a long way to go before it has satifactorily addressed my complaint - I will keep the web site updated.

Some how and I don't know how as I have only been living here for two months. Sky have got hold of my address and my phone number. Yes I do know that telephone lists are sold. But I don't give out my telephone number to many people. So I am not sure on what list it is from.

We had had about 6 calls from them including a saturday. We use the answer machine to filter calls. And one piece of mail that has been sent back to them telling them I don't have a telly and to remove me from there mailing list.

When will they get the message.

I don't even have a telly. So they are totally wasting there time. :rotfl:

    Yours

In spite of being registered with the MPS I still receive "junk" from Sky or as a result of them obviously selling my details ( I am a satellite customer). Even after 'phoning to try and stop it they still persist!
  • The worst ever I got was some company trying to sell me some kind of 'cancer cover' (critical illness but just for cancer) as it was 'important I was covered being a new mum' they had bought the list from Bounty!!

I have had 4 calls from Homecall, which i understand is part of the Caudwell Communications company. I am registered with TPS and i have told them this fact yet still get calls. I have no thoughts of using any of their services - i have thanks to this site got 500 anytime orange minutes to use and use 18866 if i need to use my home phone. Surely the company - the parent company in the uk - is breadking the tps code or what ever - how would one go about complaining and i take great exception to receiving these calls at home. I have sent an email for Mr Caudwells attention asking for a response by wednesay or i will proceed to complain formally - but how owuld i go about doing that!! I've mad emy threat now just need to find out what to do!!

I used to work for him. Very Poorly paid jobs..... Anyway

:T :rotfl: you've just made my day!
    hahahahaahaa
I always answer my phone with just 'hello' so that they do not have the upper hand.

If it's unsolicited I then explain they are through to the 'Venereal Venerables Charity', how can we help? (You have to practice a bit to say it right)

If they are stupid enough to ask what that is you just say: "We are a clinic that offers both venereal treatment and confession to Catholic nuns and priests, in the privacy of their own homes. Can we arrange a home visit for you? What is your address and phone number?"

    That shuts them up!

The initial post irked me somewhat as there was a racial undertone to the letter which bazzang wrote to Norwich Union. Yes, more and more call centres are based in India, but dont make that a big issue against indian people. Yes, you may be annoyed and angry with the time wasted with call centres and unsolicited calls, but it doesnt take long for you to make a polite reply fo "no, thanks, i am not interested, can you take my details of your calling list". It takes about 30 seconds and you probably wont be bothered again. Also, call centres are legally allowed to make calls up until 9pm, so however much you rant and rave, they will still be working right up until 8.59pm. Dont take it out on the call centre worker - they dont know you have children, they dont know you are not interested in the call/ product etc, they dont know you are busy, they dont you have routed calls to your mobile which the call recipient ends up paying for. So being rude to call centre workers doesnt really achieve much.
Also, when signing contracts with companies, entering competitions, etc etc, there is always an opt out for your information to be passed onto theird parties, so you can be extra vigilant there and choose for your information not to be sent out to third party organisations.
Dont swear, shout, or abuse call centre worker - it doent achieve much and its just rude, uncouth and uncalled for. Think about it the next time you are having a bad day at work, just doing your job and someone gives you abuse that you dont deserve.

    I agree it wasnt racist.

I always seem to get calls from India trying to "give" me a mobile phone.

The last time someone called i was in the mood for a bit of fun so I explained to the man that Im not a big phone user and that his freebie would not be any good for me.

He was stumped when I said I use around a tenners worth of credit for a month.

But still carried on with......."Mrs Mare......are you interesed in the deal??

Noooooooo and whats your name i enquired?

His name was Brian apparently (not very Indian sounding to me) and i went on to ask him about his family....how he was today....if he was enjoying his job etc etc

We had quite a nice little chat at no expence to me and STILL he was asking if I was interested.

Eventually I said it was time i was going and said Goodbye.

I waited for him to put the phone down but he wouldnt......said I had to first!!

Eventually I put it down and funnily enough we dont seem to get these types of call any more but I am ready and waiting with some of the other posters ideas.

Much more fun than just putting the phone down dont you think?
