Ha hA like the list lady noluck will definitely try some of those.

Have registered with tps and hope to lose some of these calls soon

Strangest cold call I ever had was from some company trying to sell me a Health Savings Plan (like HSA).The person on the other end was patently reading from a script, but worryingly knew which company I worked for. After several times saying NO and the guy getting pushier and pushier I snapped and demanded to know where he had got my number from. I'm ex directory and had not given my permission for my number to be given out. The only answer I could get from the phone monkey was "the computer".
Went into work the next day a queried as to how my number had got into to the hands of this company and was assured my company had not given it out.
How did they get my number and know who I worked for?
Still they've never bothered me again
I guess I'm just scarey when angry and I was!!0 -

Oh no, no, my friend. When I was cold calling I was being paid £11 per hour weekdays, £16 per hour for a saturday and £20 per hour for a Sunday. These are not underpaid people. In fact they're on higher salaries than retail managers!
They earn more money than me now so I take pleasure in making them suffer!!!! I can't wait for the next call!My mind not only wanders .......... sometimes it leaves completely0 -

HO hooo, I want to work as a cold caller then, can you give any lead? I would not mind you angry about me calling, all i care will be my huge salaryLife should not be taken seriously, as no one would get out alive0 -
SnowyOwl, we've suffered the same. I recently posted about somoene calling my partner's mobile continually, but nobody ever answered.
Eventually, someone did - but by now we were getting 10 calls an hour - and it was Barclaycard trying to sell me some insurance.
So there is a very strongly worded letter in the post to them at the moment, and I will be most interested to hear their reply. Naturally we've asked them to close his account with them.0 -
the most shocking "info selling" i've come across is from Australian/UK customs! You know those passenger cards you fill out upon arrival? Well i now recieve mail from credit card companies addressed to someone who stayed with us once, and used our address on the card. Liekwise my mum in Oz gets post for my English boyfriend who put her address on the card.
on another forum i use there was a similar thread to this - upon telling the caller that his wife had just died, the caller replied with "well are you the householder now then?"

Can anyone suggest a course of action following a unsolicited call from AXA Healthcare who advised me that they could call me because I had an an existing business relationship with Barclays ( my unused barclaycard is the only connection) who had supplied my number to them???
Prompted by this site and getting a ridiculous amount of junk mail, I registered with both the TPS and MPS about two months ago. We have always been ex-directory.
Be interesting to see what the views are!I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far! :mad:0 -

Oohh this is interesting..
My hubby had a statement from a barclaycard account the other day with a charge to AXA healthcare for approx £15. Card hasn't been used in a year or so and no debt on it.
Somebody called with a view to offering healthcare plan etc. a while ago so he asked them to post details in the post..(in ameeting at the time!). They went ahead and charged this to his account without authorisation, signature etc.
He now has to write letters etc to dispute this and get money refunded.
HTH someone..

lady_noluck wrote:If you have a little time to kill and want to get your own back try some of these:
*Assuming you don't mind having your 'phone out of action for a little while, tell the caller you're very interested, and you're just going to go and get a pen and paper so you can take notes. Leave the handset off-hook, and go back to the TV, with your feet up and relax. They're unlikely to still be there half an hour later, and it's their 'phone bill.
*Tell them to talk VERY SLOWLY, because you want to write EVERY WORD down.
*Insist that the caller is really your buddy Leon, playing a joke. "Come on Leon, cut it out! Seriously, Leon, how's your momma?"
*Tell the telemarketer you are busy at the moment and ask them if they will give you their HOME phone number so you can call them back. When the telemarketer explains that they cannot give out their HOME number, you say "I guess you don't want anyone bothering you at home, right?" The telemarketer will agree and you say, "Now you know how I feel!"
*If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and you could sure use some money.
*Cry out in surprise, "Judy! Is that you? Oh my God! Judy, how have you been?" Hopefully, this will give Judy a few brief moments of pause as she tries to figure out where the hell she could know you from.
*If they say they're John Doe from XYZ Company, ask them to spell their name. Then ask them to spell the company name. Then ask them where it is located. Continue asking them personal questions or questions about their company for as long as necessary.
*When they ask "How are you today?" Tell them! "I'm so glad you asked because no one these days seems to care, and I have all these problems; my arthritis is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog just died..."
Maybe if we annoy the staff so much they'll give up their jobs, the companies won't have any staff then they'll have to change their policies. Only call customers who want to be called or the staff will leave again.
I used to be one of these staff too!
Love these ideas..
These calls are so very annoying. Always know when I have one due to time delay at start. Normally just put phone down to be honest. Like the one about leaving them to talk to themselves...:D
Can guarentee that I will have about 8 blank messages on answer machine per day from these people...

I keep getting pestered by some outfit called Homecall...always an international incoming call from India grrrrrr.....God knows how they got my number(they know my name!?!?)..I'm ex directory, registered with the telephone preference service and NEVER give my number on online forms/comps etc (only a PAYG number for those!). Am getting so p***ed off with them now that I'm thinking of getting my number changed
I just wanted a rant! I feel a bit better now0
