pineapple_beach wrote:Hi there
Just to add my two penny-worth.
Since I started using the Tesco vouchers for deals it has paid for a ferry to France, for two French apartment holidays (thru Cresta France), paid a substantial amount towards a Florida holiday (thru Premier) and we are just back from a subsidised holiday to St Lucia (thru Tradewinds), where we stayed at Gatwick Hilton for free the night before. I have also booked and paid for in total a Centreparcs France trip next year (thru French Life).
I am realy happy with my lot, Tesco is my nearest shop, I use whatever I can to get extra points without buying stuff I don't want or need. I love my holidays and we wouldn't have done half the trips without the deals.
Maybe it depends what you want as well as what is convenient to you.

I agree :T
we have only ever used the deals for travel on the ferry ,and will be using for eurotunnel this summer
also magazine subscription
i dont go out of my way to shop in tesco, ive been shopping online with them for a few yrs anyway
i do make sure hubby puts diesel in @ tesco though :rotfl: as he does a lot of travelling in his company car and puts about £60 + worth in a week ,so he has one clubcard and i have another ,for the same account0 -
suekjw wrote:If you play the game how Tesco's want you to play it then Hambrook is absolutely right, it's probably not worth it for a lot of people. However, depending on what you are after and if you make the most of codes, recycling mobile phones, till spits etc then I personally think it is worth it.
Rest assured I never play the game, I use every bonus token that was never sent to me, trawling many many forums for extra points, refund and replace etc. But I know that we spend more just to get the bonus points and I question if this practice is worth it.
It's about Tesco's convincing you that you are getting something for nothing, and then they can relax as we all scramble for deals. In the mean time Tesco now have £4 out of every £10 spent in the high street. I have to say Tesco are a remarkable business. To gain such a monopoly without any government intervention and under the dillusion that they are saving us money. Speech over.
Yes we have used our tokens on hotel stays, ferry crossings etc, but I question if we are any better off than if we had supported local businesses or supported independent cooperatives like............ the COOP. I don't think we are. Will I change my behaviour?..................... http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/lemming:rotfl:
On a positive note..........just to say thank-you all that have contributed to this thread, its a wet and windy day here on the south coast of England and getting a good range of comments and feedback on this thread. Beats taking the Christmas tree down :-)0 -
i purchased a bosch cooker (double oven with a grill in both ovens)in there sale, they were about the cheapest at the time too.
A neff dishwasher (integrated appliance)
even shopping around for the best prices it would have only have been a few £100 cheaper.
I got a free 5 year warranty...on both, and i didnt even ask for it .lets see currys do that!
Bottem line is, if i had to pay for the items with cash in the bank , they would have come to about £1200 the pair.
i got them for £400 in vouchers., and all my cash is still sitting in the bank earning interest.
As for the furniture, i agree MDF ( Medium Density Fibreboard for thems that would like to know what it means) is everywhere....god i thought Chipboard was bad...didnt think it could get any worse.I wouldnt buy furniture from there, inless it was a Kitchen , as they are all a mix of chipboard and MDF, no matter where you buy them.0 -
well i think they are excellent, i have booked a weeks break at Center parcs in Holland for whitsun week the holiday. this i had to pay for, but i used £57.50 worth of vouchers to get £230 off the ferry crossing, the ferry cost £254 (stena line) and in fact because i had to book over the phone not on line its supposed to be £10 more, but they deducted the £10 as I was not able to book on line which was not my fault.
my weeks holiday (half term week) for a family of 4 has cost a total of £476
haw can that be bad?0 -
I have to say I have curbed my Tesco's expenditure dramatically. I do feel that people pay extra every shop to gain points. People are stockpiling wine, toiletries etc just for extra points. The fact is if you have a wine mountain you have to add in the cost of buying the wine anyway, which if you do not drink vast amounts is a waste of money and store enough toiletries for a number of years (money in the bank invested would be better) seems a nightmare.
I also would not like to spend the time in Tescos every day.
Believe you me I was a great believer in Tesco's points but actually thought about it and realised I was spending a lot of money I would not have normally spent to get the points.
Yes I do collect the points still but no longer feel the urge to use every points voucher, till spit etc. The wine ones suck you in and you end up buying wine just for the sake of the points but you feel you can't waste the vouchers.
I imagine this year with all the other household bills people will start being shocked at the amount they give to Tesco's.
What makes me laugh the most is the people who going on about "screwing" Tesco's by making loads of points but still pop in for their shopping and thus keep Tesco's rolling in the money.
Another one is when they state that if Tesco's stop taking coupons for articles not bought they will no longer shop there and it was "hit Tesco's hard". Lets face it Tesco's billions are unlikely to suffer that much and since people are using coupons Tesco's aren't making that much from them.No Matter what you do there will be critics.0 -
Having never thought about Tesco points before, over the past year I collected around £110 in tesco points equating to £440 in deals. This was by only acquiring "smart" points i.e. 1000/1500 for minimum spends and only if the purchase formed part of my natural budget i.e. what I would be buying anyway. Result 2 Cars MOT'd and fully serviced; yes this definitely saves you money. However Tesco appear to be offering 1000/1500 points for ever increasing spends so be careful to only take the "smart" ones."Didn't I try to Warn them I said !"

A random question: Did you used to be able to earn Clubcard points at B&Q, or did I dream that?Amazon sellers club - member number 63.

an example of the extra club card points.... for things that i dont normally buy....
there are some point vouchers for products... that are worth buying even if you dont normally use the products....
i have had lets say a 100 point voucher for buying x product which costs say £1.50....
as long as i use my club card points in deals i an gaining...£2.50 in the long run.....
so i look at it as though my £1.50 spend has just gained me £2.50 interest.....
yes i will use that product that i dont normally buy....
with the wine extra club card points.... i only use one or two of them..... which i can gain by..( with the above example ) and the rest i will give away to some one who will use them... normally other peeps on mse....
its worth signing up to these clubs... as they also give you a voucher for a free bag for life... or a voucher to be entered into a competition of extra points.... which if i remember rightly..... not so long ago.. the baby club ones were automatically giving every one a 1000 points....lol..
at the end of the day.... if you are happy with the deals that you are getting.... for your shopping....
then they are worth it.......each to their own........
i am well happy with getting a fridge freezer and an cooker hob.......
would i get that from any other supermarkets loyalty schemeWork to live= not live to work0 -
For us the Deals are worth it - the next mailing will be my third since finding this site - and I already have enough to pay for a week at the seaside for the five of us in a top-class caravan, and a trip to West Midlands Safari Park for us and other members of the family.
For us that is far better than the odd £15 off of our shopping bill - which is the best I'd get from the points previously.
All without actually spending any more, or travelling any further than before - just careful use of points codes and vouchers.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -

Yes you are right, that was sometime ago now.
I do not go out of my way to shop at Tesco, maybe one visit per month as waitrose is closer (I spend less there due to lack tempting clothes etc) and I prefer ASDA to Tesco. However we do all of our purchasing for just about everything on a tesco credit card to rack up our points that way - we pay the bill each month so no fee.
I use the points for free days out - Chessington, legoland, space museum, eureka to name a few we have done.
Magazine subscription - no money changing hands
RAC cover for past 3 years
Saved £1,500 on flights to Boston with airmiles - could not get cheaper flights elsewhere.
Have had 2 trips through the eurotunnel with the car - no money chaning hands again.
So all in all I like them but would not stockpile goods or buy things I was not intending to to get the points. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0
