I am taking my 2 sons to Legoland in the summer. Total for 2 Adults & 2 kids = £110. We are then going to do the London Sightseeing Tour Bus & Tower Bridge Exhibition Total: £64.50

This makes a grand total of: £174.50. I am sure I could probably get 10%-20% discount off these prices by searching out discount codes/lastminute.com. I need £44 in Clubcard vouchers to get this deal. I am well on my way to that by

    1) Using the extra points on the statement
    2) Doing my xmas booze shopping online (getting 1000 extra points for £75). The booze was generally the same across all the supermarkets.
    3) Swapping Scottish Power with Powergen for a small saving in Gas & Electricity bills although I now get clubcard points on them
    4) Getting my petrol from Tesco (generally the same as most other places)

I do our weekly shopping at ASDA as it is generally cheaper than Tesco.

If you play the game how Tesco's want you to play it then Hambrook is absolutely right, it's probably not worth it for a lot of people. However, depending on what you are after and if you make the most of codes, recycling mobile phones, till spits etc then I personally think it is worth it.
  • Hi there

Just to add my two penny-worth.
Since I started using the Tesco vouchers for deals it has paid for a ferry to France, for two French apartment holidays (thru Cresta France), paid a substantial amount towards a Florida holiday (thru Premier) and we are just back from a subsidised holiday to St Lucia (thru Tradewinds), where we stayed at Gatwick Hilton for free the night before. I have also booked and paid for in total a Centreparcs France trip next year (thru French Life).

I am realy happy with my lot, Tesco is my nearest shop, I use whatever I can to get extra points without buying stuff I don't want or need. I love my holidays and we wouldn't have done half the trips without the deals.

Maybe it depends what you want as well as what is convenient to you.

Is your Tesco store local? Do you drive and use petrol? How long do you spend in total with the 5 visits a week? If it is 3 hours, how much would you get paid for 3 hours work?

I know what you mean as I also have, at times, been tempted by the push for codes, but it is eating up time and fuel, to ultimately get points.................................

FYI. I have zero loyalty with shopping. I only use tescos to get codes. Asda are cheaper on most shopping, Lidl is far far far better quality and value than all supermarkets on fruit and veg and Aldi & Netto I use when the weekly specials present a good deal.

I pass Tesco twice a day on way way to and from work.
Don't have an Asda near us and don't like Lidl :p
Only spend a few mins at Tesco each visit.

    Aww thanks!
We aren't married yet either, so may get married on honeymoon. Cosmos do Wedding packages! Perhaps I could be the first person to get married courtesy of Tesco Clubcard deals! ;)

  • This is my first time collecting Tesco clubcard points. I am collecting tesco points to help me fund a trip to Florida in Feb 2008, I am not spending extra money to do this....I shop online for groceries in Tesco only when I have a code to use, and I use extra points vouchers in store. (otherwise I shop in Asda) I use powergen anyway as they are the cheapest supplier in my area, I use a tesco clubcard cc anyway which I pay off in full every month. Before Christmas I bought really decent wine from Tesco for extra points using codes, and the wine was as good a deal as anywhere else anyway.

I can see the point being made, if I travelled independently and booked my own flights etc, it would be so much cheaper than Virgin, but I feel like I am getting a contribution to my holiday for no extra expenditure than I would normally spend, and over 2 years I should have enough to make a decent contribution, and ultimately the amount of cash I have to pay for the holiday will be less than buying it all independently with no clubcard deals. If it doesn't work out in the end, I will just rethink the situation and go back to independent travelling!

Has anyone used the clubcard deals for a long haul holiday, and did it work out cheaper overall than booking independently. I would be very interested to know!

hi.... i feel as though i have had a good deal with the tescos club card deals....

i had £560. worth of deals..... which i have just used £500. worth....( plus £22.50 cash.. as they dont give change... so £60. for the next time )

i bought a new fridge freezer... and a new halogen cooker hob...

there is no way i could go out aand find that type of money in one go.... unless i used a credit card....

i have joined the tesco clubs.....healthy eating.... wine ..etc..

and i allways make sure..... that i am qiuds in when it comes to using the point vouchers.... till splits etc..

i am now saving for a new oven...... which as it stands i have £140. towards it.... which again.... i could not go out and buy...without borrowing money from somewhere....

so for me.....the tescos deals are well worth it.......

hopefully they will find someon similar to mfi... or a d.i.y store...... as this type of store would be more benefical to me......at the mo..

I think its all a load of claptrap.

If you work out the time and cost of chasing all those ''additional'' points, and spent the efoort on overtime or another job, you'd be far better off.

Has MFI changed then, my last dealings with them were 15 years or so ago and then I felt it was overpriced chipboard.

Amen brother. Exactly my thoughts now, and I can only see Tesco's tightening vouchers and offers in 2007.

Work more you say.................Or indeed spent the time and effort on quality time with friends, family or even .......... OUTDOORS!

Yes MFI have changed. They no longer are overpriced chipboard............................................................................................................................................................................................................Cchipboard is so 1990's.................

it's overpriced MDF these days thanks to Handy Andy and Changing Rooms :-):rotfl:
