£5,000 of spending results in 5000 Clubcard point, which equals £50 of Clubcard vouchers, which equals £200 of Clubcard Deals, which equals a loo and a bathroom cabinet at MFI.

Now I know we all use extra points coupons from Till spits and online delivery, but in this house we have sometimes purposely boosted our grocery budget to get up to £75 just to get the 1,000 point deal.

Would the money we have spent to chase the extra clubcard points have been better used bartering a cash deal at Virgin Holidays, Goldmsiths sales, MFI sale, lastminute.com etc

I think we all get caught up (some obsessed) with collecting points in the thought that we can get something we could not have normally afforded. But how much extra stuff did you buy to get there. It's easy to bump £10 or £20 a week here or there, but it all adds up. And for most of the service industry deals (annual passes, hotels, holidays) you can only use your vouchers to pay higher tarrifs than cash could have bought you, which to me, defeats the object.

We've only had magazines, so far, one we would have had, the other a nice to have. They were free. So I'm happy :)

but could you have got a better deal calling the subscriptions department directly? Most subscriptions give you a couple of issues free or 20% off (if you time it right)

I agree - why would anyone pay full price for anything at MFI. I have to say tho, that I have kitted out my daughter's bedroom with furniture that i would have never have got the cash together for. It was bought in the 'Sale' last autumn. I also got a new double slumberland bed (which is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in!!). The total came to £630 incl delivery - I paid for it all in Tesco vouchers. I have a very tight monthly budget but thru using the codes for having it delivered and also till spits, I was able to keep within my budget without overspending. I accumulated these points within 2 quarters so for me it was well worth it.

Now that is the way to do it, use the vouchers to buy sale or clearance items, shame all the deals places dont do that, probably why MFI are renegotiating.
  • We mainly use our tesco vouchers for treats/presents.

I've used the days out to chessington, thorpe park, madam tussuads, london river boat trip, london bus sight seeing, meals at planet hollywood.

I've also used them for magazine subscriptions for gifts and three driving experiences for my sons christmas presents as well as buyagift vouchers for makeover/photo session for my daughters.

Our tesco is really close and I tend to use the split till receipts/extra point vouchers/codes to gain more points rather than spending more in store.

It's a shame that you cant buy anything electronic with them. Would be so handy if you could use them like Nectar points at Argos and also for kids stuff at Adams.

I have to say the only time I attempted to use my vouchers at MFI for a bed for my little boy I ended up cancelling the order as no-one seemed to know what was going on.

I got my little a bed from MFI (the one with a slide) I paid about £20 cash and the rest was Club Card Deals vouchers. No problems with transaction at all - so worth trying again - good luck!

I do all my food shopping in Tesco and have just over £140 worth of Clubcard points this quarter, I don't spend anymore than I used to when I shopped at Morrisons - I actually spend LESS as I can use coupons :T

Only problem is that I have turned into a voucher obsessive and prob call at Tesco 5 times per week :o (but I only spend a small amount each visit)

Wouldn't it be great if Tesco Team up with Currys after the MFI deal finishes!

Is your Tesco store local? Do you drive and use petrol? How long do you spend in total with the 5 visits a week? If it is 3 hours, how much would you get paid for 3 hours work?

I know what you mean as I also have, at times, been tempted by the push for codes, but it is eating up time and fuel, to ultimately get points.................................

FYI. I have zero loyalty with shopping. I only use tescos to get codes. Asda are cheaper on most shopping, Lidl is far far far better quality and value than all supermarkets on fruit and veg and Aldi & Netto I use when the weekly specials present a good deal.

when you change club card points for deal vouchers how long is the expiry date on them?
  • I think its all a load of claptrap.

If you work out the time and cost of chasing all those ''additional'' points, and spent the efoort on overtime or another job, you'd be far better off.

Has MFI changed then, my last dealings with them were 15 years or so ago and then I felt it was overpriced chipboard.
Most people overlook opportunity as it comes dressed in overalls, and looks like hard work.
