Ex-wife spent childrens savings...

As far as am I concerned the money did not belong to the children - but to the parents of the children to spend as they saw fit. It is rumour, bitterness and heresay that she spent it on wine and fags.
I am sure the family members who gifted my CHILDREN this money would think otherwise, had they wanted the children's mother to have the money, surely they would have simply given it to her on the childrens birthdays... And I don't recall ever saying she spent their money on 'wine & fags' ... I said she had told the children she had spent the money on 'bills & holiday clothes' - I made the point that if she felt financially strapped to the point of having to spend her own childrens future, maybe she needed to reconside her cigarette & wine habit which she evidentally cannot afford !0 -
Can you sit down with your ex and actually just ASK her what's happened to the money? There could have been unexpected bills and if she needed the money to feed the kids or keep a roof over their head then that's kind-of understandable. I don't think it's up to the children to confront their own mother - that puts them in an absolutely horrible, stressful situation and they are not "equals" to their mother. It should be you or your mother who talk to her about it. Try and keep it calm and you might find out what's happened. If you start the conversation in an accusatory way, she will only be defensive. If the bank book is in your mother's name then even if she gave the book to your ex, surely she would have to countersign any withdrawals? If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

I'm sorry I have to disagree if I give a child money for a birthday/xmas I expect it to be spent on the child at some point. I have over the years borrowed from my girls accounts when desperate but have paid it back and handed over the full amount + interest on the 18th birthday - with a long list of where that money came from.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -

So, why did your mother hand over the bank books to someone she knows has all these issues you describe then?
You don't KNOW the money has been spent at all - you are presuming is has because your children have told you so, but until you get hold of the evidence, you can only guess.
I agree with Emmzi - your children may not be entirely truthful with you.
They do have something to gain - a bit more ammo against the mother they dislike and a few more points from dad. Plus, they get you to pay for the gym membership as they've had their money 'taken'.
You can be as antsy as you like but you do need proof before you go accusing people of theft!0
